Yep, the chicken/yogurt/tandoori paste gets baked in the oven first, to where the chicken has nice crispy edges. Then the sauce is made from the drippings.
I was going to say, āDonāt forget the squirrel sushi!ā and post a pretty awful pic from a long ago thread with Devon, I think, about eating food from the campsite or something.
But, I decided not to. Maybe because I couldnāt find the thread or pic; or maybe cuz Iād rather spare you that, and say:
CONGRATS, JOHN!!
Cliff,
Red squirrel from Oklahoma hardwood forests shouldnāt be taken lightly. Itās good. Grey squirrel from n idaho pine forests is another thing. Not so good
Devon, whatever you say about squirrel eating, thatās cool with me, and Iāll take your word for it as the truth.
But where was that sushi red squirrel pic? Canāt find itā¦
I mean, John needs some creative protein in his wedding chow lineup, so thatās what got me thinking.
Guess it all depends on how hungry you are. Eaten both after killing and cleaning them however they were both from Pennsyltucky sooooo probably not the same.
Now when you skin them do you do it the quick way and stand on the tail ( grey squirrel) ?
Guess it donāt matter either way as when you whack the tail off after skinned itās still a tree RAT and too much work for what you get out of it unless your really hungry.
Now I agree what you get for the effort isnāt worth it. I didnāt kill or clean the red from Oklahoma. It was served to me. The grey from home was snared as part of survival training. I use a pocket knife to start but basically just pulled off the skin
I just seen this on my news feed. I note that many of these can holders appear to be sobering beverages. I take it that Squirrel doesnāt pair well with a Pinot Noir?
I canāt tell where this photo comes from. Is the origin from North Idaho or Pennsyltucky?
Bill,
We call that drunk squirrel in these parts but they forgot to skin them first and the cans are upside down. You canāt lay that on the grill (or barbie) like that?? Itās clearly a photo shop or a challenged individual that posted to your news feed.
I prefer drunk chicken myself but you always have them yuppie idiots that ruin it with a light beerā¦Dumasses ( yes I forgot the B ) but if you put an F (for fail) in place of B then it would be a new trend DumFasses⦠Like OMGram have you had their chicken on the grill/barbie. Itās like to die for!!
I make it several times a year. So good.
What beer do you use, & does it actually change the taste?
Same beer they use for āFirehouse Chickenā on the grill cause there is no other way to make it !
That make sense?
Probably not that exotic except far away from Pennseltuky, but my wife and I like to make homemade chicken corn soup. Its a Pennsylvania Dutch favorite. Oddly enough, my Slovenian grandmother showed Kathy and me how to make the rivels (free-form noodles). Chicken corn soup is a very satisfying soup.
Regards, David Meashey
Bill I use any of the pilsner beers but not light beer. Yes it add flavor but i think as important is that the chicken comes out very moist
Devon,
Does the alcohol entirely cook off?
If so⦠would an N/A beer (cringe) work just as well, at least in theory?
If not⦠how safe is it for the little ones to partake of?
I have a similar question. Can the can just be filled with hops (or other aromatics) and water? While there are no laws here preventing wasting beer, it might cause you being socially ostracised at the pub. All parts of the beer brewing process is sacred⦠hence Vegemite.
Cliff, I think youāre safe. I learnt alcohol boils off at 78 °C (173 °F) (water 212 °F (100 °C)) when I incorrectly made queso flamanado with the tequila in the cheese during the cook.
Quite a sobering experience as the alcohol boiled off before the cheese bubbled.
Bill,
This is the United States your chatting with here and perhaps you are being roosterised at the pub.
Good Lord Cliff,
Iāve been cooking with beer since my son was 5 and heās fine.
Julia Child would never steer yaā wrong, right?
Ōā©SSā
Was it Julia Child who said, āI love cooking with wine. Itās better than cooking sober.ā?
