Large Scale Central

CN Spadina coal tower, my way

Thanks Lou.

Last (?) detail on the chute is where the chain attaches to the chute. I was intending on using ship model shackles, but couldnt find anything that looked exactly right. So, back to brass. I cut a slot in the end of some square tube, cross-drilled for a nut/bolt, and will solder the chain in the end.

That oughta do the trick…it’s looks beefy enough.

Details are looking good.

Some work on the second chute today.

A bit of sanding on the chute door, and then assembly, and it will be done.

The last bit of spot putty went on the coal tower itself today. Tomorrow I’ll sand it smooth, and then maybe it’ll be warm enough near the end of the week for a coat of primer to find the warts.

Time for some progress photos, it’s been a while.

Here are the windows and door painted

And one of them in place, with some of the brick red for a color test.

And a view of one of the coal chutes in place.

Still lots more to do.

Looks promising. Will we see it at TrainOps?

Yep, I think I need about two more hours to paint the brick, and about another hour to assemble the whole thing. I’m going to do the roof with corrugated steel, so that should go pretty quick, and itll be a test for all the corrugated stuff I’ll need for the colliery.

Looks good Bob. Did you get the counter weights figured out on the chutes ?

Last night’s work. A bit of paint on some of the brick. Put the windows in place to see how it’ll look. And attached the first chute.

Man, that looks great…

Impressive!

Looks great. That’s going to be impressive out on the RR.

Ummmm You can get it through the door, right?

Thanks guys. Its really starting to look nice.

Lou: Its supposed to? Damn!

Brick painting almost done. Need to trim out a few of the sections on the rear.

Next up, installing the windows and doors, and the roof.

Waiting impatiently.

Well, at least he didn’t say “Is it done yet?”

Bob,

Quite an impressive model. I really like the combination of brick and concrete.

Doc

Doc, that’s one of the things that drew me to model this. Its very unusual in its construction.

i am waiting.
waiting for the pics, that show, where you break a hole into the wall, to get this “little” modell out of the shed…
