Large Scale Central

Challenger Bash from two Pacifics

I suppose they had similar problems with the first version of the prototype  Looking good Jerry.

Gunga Din, Your a Braver Man Than I

Nah, probably just fool hardy, or stupid!

Some guys on MLS noticed I had the eccentrics wrong, so I got that corrected, hope that was it. Will try it on the rollers tomorrow, well each drive, since I only have 4 rollers, not 6!

This is astounding work Jerry. Its such a complex engine to build, I’m just amazed.
Dave

Nice work! The layout looks good as well…

Well, the u-joint did not work, did not allow enough pivot for the front drive unit. I contacted John Winnie, in Texas, he’s made some Challengers and BIg Boys-quite a modeler! He sits the motor on top of the block driving the axles with two Plastrut gears, they are just the right size. Both are the same size, so maintain the same speed. Gears were on back order, but I’m now back to work on the C and the weather looks bad, so should have some good basement shop time.

I got some paint onto the Challenger. Still quite a few details left to do, lights/lettering/etc…Having fun with it but trying to figure out where to put it when I’m done, have to re-organize the train shed I guess.

Very nice. Now how about a shot with the tender behind it?

That’s a BIG locomotive!

It sure is big.
Saw one in “O” scale yesterday. Even it was pretty darn long!
Nice job.
I’ll be waiting for the video

I am about done with the Challenger. GOt the lights all wired up with led’s, I put a thin wash of orange over them to warm them up some. My wife did the large lettering/numbers, she used to run a sign biz out of the house and still has her cutter-lucky for me! I did the smaller lettering and herald using ink jet vinyl, then cut them out , peeled off the backing and stuck them on. I plan to do some weathering and still need to finish up the cow catcher and a few other details. Bad weather is coming back, so that works out well!

Nicely done Jerry.

That looks great, Jerry.

Wow
Looks great.
Ralph

Thanks guys. The loco is 32", tender is 18". Carrying it is a pain!

Fantastic. The dents in the tender really add to the realism.

W…O…W…!!!

Nice job, Jerry!!

Jerry ,
Your model has the look of being made by someone who really enjoys his modelling .
Nice one !!

I’m sure Jerry, it is only 7 inches shorter than USA BigBoy. It looks great Jerry, you really got it done faster than I thought. How much does it weigh?
