Lately I’ve been trying out paint colors. For the main body (Brilliant Brown) I am trying out an Acrylic Candy Metallic paint using Createx products. I kinda messed up spraying the back of the tender. Wiping down with alcohol stripped enough that I was able to respray no problem. Also using Createx water based Auto Air (Metallic Blue Silver and Metallic Charcoal Viola) on the Boiler. Paint will be sprayed with an Acrylic UV Clear later on.

Tommy,
I am glad you did the paint that you did. I have been wondering about a good paint for Russia or planished iron. So many of the model manufactures make it blue. Its not blue its gun metal grey but because it was so shiny it reflects blue giving it that special color. I was going to use Testor’s metalizer buffing paints but I prefer acrylic. Never thought to try some of the candy colored createx. But I like the look of it. Have you tried buffing it? If not it looks great. It think that has just the right color.
Very nice locomotive.
Devon,
Thanks. Only the brown has candy in it. The blue is Createx Auto Air Metallic Blue Silver over a gloss black primer. The paint on the locomotive is as I sprayed it and untouched. It still needs some refining (patching, repainting, buffing, wet sanding, not sure yet?) before I put a clear on it. Next up is spraying the panels on the cab and interior of the cab.

Good news (or bad news depending on your point of view). I got a package of parts from HLW with the parts needed to build my own CP Huntington. Now I no longer have an excuse for not building one…
Stan Cedarleaf can also still provide the decals.

Yes and he has a couple of color variations available. I have the original set.

Any update on this build?
Hi Devon,
Had back surgery so no updates or building. Looking forward to working on it soon.
Thanks for asking

CPH UPDATE: It’s been awhile. I add attachment members to the cab and tender and bolted them to the frame. I sprayed an Interior green and sprayed UV acrylic gloss coat and satin coat. Now the bad news: In my taping and partially disassembling my locomotive I split the gearbox. (I think it is when I had to pry the driving wheels off the axles). I gotta admit - this really took the wind out of my sails. A few weeks went by before I could even think about it. What was I going to do?
I could put it aside for another day and forget about it.
I could continue the build and have a shelf Queen.
I could dissemble it and hope I could fix it.
I could call Phil Jensen at Hartland Locomotive Works.
I called Phil and we had a nice talk. Originally, I was thinking I had to replace the complete motor assembly. Phil’s advice was to just replace the gear housing and axle. So, I placed my order and the parts came in today.
Next step is to get in the right frame of mind, dissemble the locomotive, replace the gear housing and reassemble.
It will be slow going here as I heal, work (real job) and stay safe during this pandemic.
The Good news is the build continues……

Yay! on the fix.(https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Model looks good.
Phil is a good fellow; as it happens, I called him this morning to order some parts relevant to electric traction models & 4 of the steam loco box headlights.
He was working on a model of a Rexall drug store.
We visited for a bit.
Based on my occasional experiences over the years, I think a person would have to put conscious, active, effort in to not having a nice talk with Phil! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Yes Phil is just a super guy, always nice, never hurried and super helpful + a master builder himself
Last night I took the CPH apart. I want to thank David Fletcher for designing a kit that made it possible to take apart without having to break anything. So here is the chassis apart. The broken gearbox removed. Chassis reassemble with new gearbox and bench run to verify squareness of chassis to axle.

Hey, success! That’s always an uplift.
I split the gearbox
Tommy, your pic looks just like the gearbox I found on an old Delton Woodie. The screws tend to give way and that lets the gears go out of mesh.
Once you’re done and have some spare time (!) try re-working that screw - maybe install a longer one, or a bolt with a nut? My gearbox started to work again as soon as I got it securely clamped together.
Test run of CPH with cab and tender attached. Boiler and Smokestack just sitting going for the ride.
