Build Challenge Photo Update. How far along are you?

Hello to all the Builders and Watchers.

This year there are so many great builds going on that I’m getting confused with who is doing what. Since we are now half way through the challenge I think we should all post a photo here showing how far along we are.
For the Builders. If you could post a up to date photo of your build and a brief blurb of what you still want to accomplish that would be great.
For the Watchers. Do not write any comments here leave that to the actual build log.

It would be nice to see who is building what and how far along they are all in one spot instead of having to go log to log. Remember no comments just a photo and a brief description.

Here is my build a 2 bay engine house so far.

I still need to build the front doors, put on the front foundation pieces, figure out a roof and skylights, install the 10 windows, extra interior bracing and figure out what I’m going to do for a floor.

My Build Log can be found here:

I’m building a 3D sort of Monster Flat. Lots of work left to do…Nelson Repeating Arms…the NRA is moving Forward!

Gotta figure the material for the roof and build the trackside loading dock as well.

Carry on…

Tucson Freight…
But… but … bu…b. Time may be 1/2 while my work is 1/3 done.
With this gang it’s in the details… those I haven’t even thought about… oh poor me.
Ok now that I have your sympathy… Tucson Freight…
Here in the desert we are timber short and stone long… as a former sea bed we are limestone rich so cement is part of the developed culture that I combined with old world techniques such as timber for beams. In the sky Isands where mountains are tall enough to create a different climate a 40’ tree is a giant!
I used twigs from a sage plant I trimmed last year, all the wood seen is recycled, I salvaged a pecky cedar roof, I cut out the pecks…the rocks are sized through 1/2" and 1/4" wire cloth. I use what is trapped between them. I try to get a single layer and then will use the smaller rock to fill big gaps. Mix the cement and pour it in.
Locally the natives use a stick like cactus; Ocotillo, as sticks laid side by side over the timber beams to form roofs. Vegatation and a hold down cover of dirt makes a great sun block and maybe an adequate rain roof… and a way to collect rain water.
It doesn’t look like much yet, the loading deck, floor and back wall are on today’s schedule. In the pic the wood shapes will be sacrificed during their removal except for the lintels. There is hardware cloth in the wall for a window treatment.
Ok that’s my blurb … gee I didn’t realise I was so blurb-ery…

The Tennessee Boys are right about here in the build of the Fish Camp Company Commissary high up in the Smoky Mountains on the Little River Rail Road.

If you all wants to read about it and understand these durn commuters why here it is.

Reckon we needs a roof, a loading dock, the fourth wall and some stairs and we can start making some sales to these here wood hicks.

Might ought to finish that passenger box car too.

I am building an early 20’th century gas station. What with the cold temperatures and my cold and laryngitis, work hasn’t progressed as much as I would have hoped by now.

I am building a replica of an early 20th Century PRR Flagstop Station in Adams Station, New Jersey. You may find it as Adams. My build is located at:

My Grandfather used to stoke up the fire in the old stove for the commuters going to New York City. He was also a Trackman, and the Crossing guard before the overpass was put in.

It’s not as green as it looks here.

My progress so far .need to decide if im using the fan i built out of wood or am gonna try a metal one. Also finish the roof, ladder, exterior of building and it will be done…

Got the roof trusses on and ready to start the strapping and roofing.

Then the base and posts for the front support and the gas pump.

Progress has been slow, but I’ve got most of the exterior finished, just not assebled. It is a newsstand that I’ve made from recycled masonite, mostly.

I’ll take the parts outside tomorrow and take a picture or two.

It’s got a flat roof that I’ve made out of acrylic, reinforced with styrene beams. I decided it needed skylights, so I’ve made a few out of slightly thicker acrylic. I’m ready to paint the roof a dull color, maybe black or dark grey.

Will need to fill the gaps in the wood pieces, add the floor and add the details. Won’t have much time next week to finish, but should be able to get under the deadline … if I’m lucky!

I haven’t done much since Jan 23 as school, work, and the other half are taking priority over modeling time. That said I’m pleased with the progress that I have made. Half the walls are up, interior design has started, and most of all I’m having fun.

I highly doubt I’ll finish before the challenge ends, but the missus is going to be gone for the second half of Feb, so I might be able to squeeze more time in while she’s gone!

This is where the building stands now.

On the to do list is; finish gluing the last remaining exterior walls, cut out acrylic windows and make window/door frames. Interior modeling includes pretty much everything.

The information with the picture above doesn’t want to go with the picture!

The boards are on the Undertaker and Furniture store but the battens aren’t done yet! That comes next!

I have a ways to go. I still have to add bracing, make a chute, stain the whole thing put the hoist house on build a sand bunker and put in all the piping.

As I have reported in my Ozaukee Tower thread progress has been help up a little. Hopefully we are on the move again.

I see some nice models slowly reaching fruition here.

Boy… there is a lot of neat ideas… Like this idea for a gas station maybe. Wonder how that would work with one of Michael Crafts log cabin for that idea?

Here is the current status on Mik’s Salvage Co. The build log can be found here:http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/20711/2014-build-challenge-mik-s-salv

We are building a mine, and a mine needs an abandoned mine cabin, been trying to find the roughest pieces of cedar i can find to make it as abandoned as i can

I did carve as best i could, harder than you think just to create a mountian…

did paint it generic Sat, will dab some stuff all over later to make it look more real…yea

Thats all for now, will keep glueing our Mine cabin, shaved off about 1/4 in of rough cedar and will make the siding with that, will overlap pieces.

tomh

OK, here it is so far. Front View of Newstand

Yet to do

  1. paint roof and install skylights.

  2. install counter and interior wall.

  3. install cabinets and magazine racks.

  4. add LED lights

Will get back to it when I return to California.

The builds are looking GREAT guys. Some have made nice progress whereas others have a long way to go but you still have time.
Keep up the good work and for the builders who haven’t posted here yet please do so we can see what you are up to.

Thanks
