Large Scale Central

Brrrrrrrrrrrr

Freezing rain this morning now just plain cold rain. Ralph I want to see trains running in that snow. Looks like a nice scale snow.

It’s just plain nasty here this morning. Ground is frozen from very low temps last week. A dusting of snow yesterday night melted off in the sun and 40 degree temps in the afternoon. Got quite cold again after sundown; freezing rain last night into early morning. Now just rain with rising temps. We may get 2-4 inches of rain and the drain at the bottom of my driveway is plugged again. I can’t get motivated to wade into the puddle with a snake to open it up.

Ahhh…a bit damp around here, in Ottawa. Freezing rain started around 06:00 this morning, and now is basicly rain…will start freezing again soon, and probably turn to snow later.
I have to attend a wake this afternoon, and can’t wait for the return, home to work in the shop.

Freezing rain this morning, everything was covered in ice… its about 35f now, and thawing…

at 10:22 cst, it’s nice warm 23 degrees, winds are gusting up to 31 MPH, blowing snow, and it’s still snowing… about an inch of so on the ground, so far… went up town for breakfast, roads were ok… snow covered where there were structures of woods on the west side, clear other places, because of the winds… coming home, was a totally different world… winds picked up, more blowing snow, and snowing still… had whiteout conditions a few times, in the 12 mile run…

However, it’s a balmy 74 in the house, and no wind or snow…

I would say about 2 inches high winds with lots of blowing snow. very cold. the dogs dont even wont to be outside.

guess I need to get to work on that snow plow car I was going to build this past summer.

Where did you take that picture from?

Shawn, I didn't like the way my plow looked on my Annie.....so I took it off. I think with the grades on my line, the Annie wouldn't of pushed much snow anyway. I'm probably going to have to come up with something better to plow with. Ralph

my webcam. Too cold to go out side and take pictures

I was going to say, that’s a tall shot even for you.

Ok I got the boys up and into the shop to get to work on the plow for the railroad. Have to keep things running at Christmas time you know. We had a old caboose sitting around and a plow so they got to work and here is what the truned out in no time at all. It still has to go to the paint shop but we should have it out cleaning the track soon.

I need to find a light for it and I might have to add some weight to it. Testing will start as soon as the winds slow down a bit. To cold and windy for me.

Too cold and windy??? your a fair weather railroader???

and your point is?

Looking like some fun out side… Make a video of the plowing guy… We don’t get any snow here.

Geoff,

You can plow snow with it unpainted. Really.

did a test run. made it about 10 feet put the plow keeks derailing. Will add some weight to it and try again when it is not so windy and cold out. July is sounding good to me right now for that test…Maybe Monday after work will try again.

Since I didn’t have a plow mounted…I cheated and waited for the snow to melt

Great video ralph. You can always cheat when it comes to plowing. If its too deep I use a plastic kids snow shovel. I cut the sides so it is a little wider then the tracks. I call it my human powered plow. Works great.
