That looks really good
50 feet of posts and rail in the assembly jig, drying. Once this is dry, I’ll cut the posts to length and then add the fence fabric.
Meanwhile, working out the other style of fence/wall. Something along these lines, steel panels.
Hey. I see you there! I was just about to over complicate my easy build this year…
re: Barbed wire
The best looking is a pair of twisted florist wire. Downside is this little 2" piece took me about five minutes to make.
The faster option is just some stainless steel wire wrapped around a dowel. Doesnt’ look as good, but its much faster.
Fast way to twist wire: Secure one end and chuck the other in your drill. Pull tight and rotate slowly. The longer you twist it, the tighter and shorter it gets.
I do this with three strands of 14g THHN stranded wire at work to keep the primary of my signs neat and easy to thread down liquid-tite.
Hopefully that will work for the florist wire as it does look way better.
I use mechanic’s wire at work to make a wire snake. Your fine florist wire will also work fine to make even twists. I take a piece of wire twice as long as I need it. Bend it in the middle to have the two parts.
Put the folded end in the bench vise. Grab the two loose ends even, with a pair of vise grip pliers. Pull and twist the vise grips. The wire needs to be straight to start with, if it has kinks the twisting will not be even.
The florist wire does look much better but isn’t that how it always happens … the PITA process returns the best results. I’ve used Jon’s method for twisting the wires together and it works well for short runs like what you are working with. The last time I did it I was twisting 2 16 gauge wires that were 150 feet each for my underground dog fence, talking about a royal PITA
Yea I wound these with two pair of vise grips. The other issue is that I only have this thin wire in short pieces. Hmmm. Time to scrounge.
Bob, the new guy here may have stumbled across some options
I came across these scale alternatives
It’s similar to what you’ve been trialling but using two wires of dissimilar sizes as in this pic. I suspect this was made with a rope walk similar to what model ship makers use to make rope.
Oh, that’s interesting. Ive seen a couple videos of making actual scale 1:35 barbed wire for wargaming, but this looks pretty good. I need to dig into my wire roll collection and see what I have on hand.
Thats looking good Bob. Hope you find a suitable solution to the barbed wire. It really does look good
Late entry is some old picture framing wire I found about four feet of. Its eight strands of very fine wire. I might save this for something special, since it looks REALLY good.
Wow that’s some dedication to make all those loops and then cut them off to leave the barbs, guess if your going to weave your own fencing , then you would have to make your own barbed wire!
Today’s entry in the “Bob has officially gone insane” category, we have tying the fabric to the posts and rail with florists wire.
Way Cool…But what no wrap around the pole, and bolted thru clamps? LOL
Like Dave said that end pole needs bolted clamps holding a flat strip fed through the links to pull tension on the run.
But I’d leave it alone
It’s a low budget job. Goodson can’t afford all them fancy parts!
Ok …I try and stay out of the Mik challenge threads but I’m concerned with letter ‘C’ in Hollywoods schematic. Have we decided on a finial choice “first timer” ‘Mik challenge’ Bob ?
And something needs to happen with H if you have ground hogs as there ,their day is arriving soon!
Just saying
Bob I have decided that you are a master. I would have bet a weeks pay that someone modeling a chain link fence would be a snooze fest. But I am captivated. I wouldn’t have dream how much thought would be required to make a fricking fence. But you are nailing it. Its brilliant.
