A Raised Road Bed: A build log for the RGS raised layout.

Ken, I may be off but I think this new arrangement is going to create problems. Is there anyway to get a track through from the side of the shed to the back of the shed with out having to use the turn table ? I know this would mean a lot of rebuilt trackage (crossing) but I feel it would help in the over all.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Not really, Dave. Inside the shed on the back wall is the shelf with the Interchange/storage track. But, I may see if I can build a suitable curve around that corner and connect it one of those tracks on the side wall. Once I get that module built I’ll be able to see if it can be done that way.

If this is only going to be a loading / storage facility and not have any industries then I think access through the table will be OK.

Once you have the benches built you could look at the possibility of another access hole in the shed giving an alternate route without crossing the table. Of course, that would only work when the track through the indoor yard was clear.

Ken, is the new addition to be used only as the engine facility, and nothing else??

And, does track 5 have an outlet to track 3 or the mainline further to the right of the diagram??

If the area is just for loading/storing locomotives between runs, then I suggest taking out 3 feet (or so) of rail (and ties) for each track to allow somebody to plop down their locomotive carrier and run it on to the storage track.

“It’ll involve a bit more work than what I had originally planned but it should be worth it. Plus the engine servicing facilities will be moved to this new location.”

A garden/model railroad is never done(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

That’s the plan, Andy. And loading and unloading engines, and a place to store them between runs.

Yea, track 5 is the present service track that runs along the back wall. It connects to both the main and an lead going to the Interchange.

As you can see in the picture, Delores Yard was cluttered with 4 engines not doing anything. Along the side wall they’ll be out of the way.

(Hmmmmmm, picture keeps dissapearing)

That’ll work, too.

Maybe an outlet for charging?

The reasoning for not using the turntable as the only access point was based on delivering wood, coal, sand and/or fuel oil for any engines being serviced at the engine facility… I figured with a direct line into the engine facility, it would provide more delivery points during Operations…

Why not beer holders and ashtrays with a fully stocked bar in the shed. Oh and a Superliner wash rack just past the Delores station as well.

I like the track 1 option dad. Just turn the corner and leave the TT alone. But I don’t see track 5 myself however it’s probably all in your head! So we need to get it out of your head and onto paper!

Son, in the updated track plan, the service track changed to track 5… Keep up, boy…

I’m up for that!

Ok so how do you plan on turning track 5 around the corner

I never said for track 5 to turn the corner… I asked if Track 5 connected anywhere on the right side of the diagram, since i didn’t remember his exact track plan…

You answered that question yourself, with the picture you posted in your reply to Bruce…

Next thing ya know, you all will want heat and A/C out in the shed too…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Wait…you’re doing these track modifications BEFORE you do HVAC in the shed? Have you no sense of priorities??? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Sheesh, no respect…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I could put a acorn fired generator in there and you can supply all the acorns to fire it up. How’s that sound? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

All the acorns you want…as long as YOU gather them. (BTW, that offer holds for EVERYBODY(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif))
