Wow.

You didn’t waste much time. It takes me longer than this just to figure out what I want to do.

Looks good. No more weeding. I like it (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Ralph

Ralph, the “figgerin out” part was done quite a few years ago. The “should I go ahead with this” part was what took the longest. The “will this work” part is the ongoing thing at the moment. But so far, so good!

The “no more weeding” part is still up in the air…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

But, so far, maintenance has been minimal.

On June 8 I hosted a small operating session with Bruce Chandler and Jim Kottkamp. I was mainly interested in any problems they may run into. Surprisingly there were very few.

Jim arrived early and helped with the set outs.

Update June 11, 2016:

Part 7 has been added: http://www.largescalecentral.com/articles/169/a-raised-roadbed-part-7-odds-n-ends

I try to avoid Lowes on the weekend, but Ihad a few things I wanted to do on the layout.

First thing was getting rid of the pipe trestle that I had built to connect the two towns.

And broaden the curves on both ends.

Next up was getting some more side sills on.

Then the humidity got a bit much…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Then the humidity got a bit much

Then that is where you park yourself under those trees with some Dark Ales and call it a day. BTW the RR is looking great Ken.

Ken gave that up Randy but I sure didn’t …that is why I need to get my butt down there!

Yea, You do!..(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

What a PITA! Worked on getting the side sills placed on the back side of Hesperus. Everyone had to be cut, some at an angle. But that’s out of the way. Now I can start with adding the dirt.

After that I painted the sills in Mancos. Helps them blend in a bit more than the glaring white.

And while that was going on a Navy blimp flew over. Where that came from and where it’s going is the question…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Ken’s the " Dirt Miser "

WOW, Ken is a dirty ole man… hehehe Looks great, Ken… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Now that looks better. Are you going to ballast the tracks, or is this one of them really poor short-lines that didn’t use ballast?

Are you breaking down your own rocks to get the realistic dirt ?(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I haven’t decided on that yet. It seems to disappear anyway, after awhile. I have been using the ash from the woodstove, but that disappears too.

Mother Nature is, probably. Too much work for me…

All I do is screen the screened topsoil a little more and add peat moss to it.

I was just noting the boulders on the edge of the layout(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Hollywood is such a nitpick in his old age anymore!

They’re there to break up the flatness a little bit.

I vote for ballast, but I sympathize a lot, and my two youngest children, who are in charge of ballasting, really sympathize.

Times change. It doesn’t seem like that long ago we were all asking where the flowers have gone, now it’s where has all the ballast gone?

Oh well, I always hated that song anyway.

Your layout just keeps getting better and better.
