A Grist Mill-Part 2

With 2’ of snow on the ground and 30 degree weather, ain’t much else to do but work inside. Just keep the woodstove fired up…

I’m with you Mike, we are a little backwards in FL, time to party and have fun in the winter!! Just went to Disney and it was beautiful outside…

Ken, wow, you are even putting stones on the water run-off? Sorry about your 2 foot extra background material. Pretty unheard of in your neck of the woods too, isn’t it? I can’t really remember Phillie haven’t that much snow in years.

Looks like you will be ready for a spring time unveiling"… Elaine

It’s not unheard of, we just got hit with back-to-back-to-back snowstorms, so that was unusual, with another one on the way. We’ve had worse ones, like around '76, had a drift across the drive that need a front end loader to clear out. Had to drive through my neighbors front yard to get to the street…

I had a few warmer days to get out on the layout and try and get a feel for how this will fit into the scheme of things. I needed to see how the spillway would work out in conjunction with pond, rather then get to much further along and finding it didn’t “fit”. I found it needed to be lengthened and more angled to drain into the pond.

It may still need further adjustment which I’ll find out later today, before the next major “snow dump” happens.

I also decided it needed a cupola so “Rooster” could have a place to hang out.

As you can see it’s slowly coming together.

Wow that really looks nice. I think that would look better on my layout

Would you like my whole layout? I already have 2 buildings I’m saving for you. Would you like to have the rest of them too…

Dad…Shawn and I already discussed this and yes he is going to help me the day we have to do it at your place as well!

Wow, nice work!

Well Ken if your offering it to me then Ill be right down. Actually Im already on the road. Just have to pick up Rooster first.

Looks great Ken,

Looking forward to seeing it on the layout.

Great build Ken I love the colors.

Finally stopped running around down here in our beautiful sunny weather to catch up to the notes on this forum… The roads are bulging from all of the Northern influx of people… I guess really a lot don’t care for the snow?

You’ve made great progress Ken, the building is looking great… Who’s Rooster?

Have fun, Elaine

Project is looking great Ken. I guess you can’t complete with water just yet as I guess it is too cold and would ice up. lol

Temperatures here range between 40F and 60F most of the time and spring is here in this part of the UK, Frog spawn, daffodils and other spring bulbs well into flower and buds on many trees and bushes. A lot of plants that die, or die back, during winter are still in flower. But whereas you have had cold and snow we have had very high winds and plenty of rain.

Mr. David Russel, another forum member is commonly refereed to as “Rooster”. It’s an old joke. And just to show him how much I like him, I put “Rooster” weather vanes on some of my buildings. The cupola will get one of them…

That way, he won’t criticize my construction efforts…(i hope)…

Aha, now I understand… Nice that you include other members in your buildings… Not sure what the temps are in England right now, per Alan, but I think I saw in the news the other day, FL is leading the nation at the moment. (Sorry, never learned the celsius conversion)…

Guess, Ken, you can’t be in too much of a hurry to put it out, remember Punxy Phil called for 6 weeks, and I guess that means 2 more weeks now?

Looks like the contest was successful, hope to check out all of the entries, I’m so far behind… Elaine

Most of my buildings are named for friends that I’ve met on here and I’ve operated on some of their layouts.

Chandler’s Mercantile, Radder’s Mill, Golding Freight, Clark’s Emporium(Home of the Haystack, BTW), McCown’s Boot Shop, Berg’s Woodworking, Russel’s Garage, Smith’s Creamery, etc. I haven’t figured out yet what type of building I want to add Shawn’s name to, but probably a Pawn Shop, since he’s always trying to pawn stuff of of me…

When you build the pawn shop Ill take whatever building it replaces  You could always build a Ranger station.

Hey Ken, just revisited this build to figure what materials I need to bring to PA in a couple weeks. I am gonna try and copy your efforts (if I can) while I’m away from my layout for the summer.

BTW, the weather is getting nicer up there now, I heard 70s over the weekend. Did you get the mill placed yet? I’m also interested to see how it ends up connected with your water feature.
