No weather vane...I'm just keeping the acrylic ball on top.
Bruce, you just use exterior grade house paint on these pvc structures, right? Do you use a primer or just the paint?
Ray,
Yes, exterior grade house paint; no primer. I go to Home Depot and get the sample size stuff - you can get the exact color you want, which is just perfect. Best of all, you get about 7 oz of paint for under $3. That’s more than enough paint for a building (or two) and I know it’s going to do well outside.

Ray Dunakin said:Actually, the interior grade samples work just as well outdoors. All 3 of the stations I built have interior grade paint on them. The 2 that have been outside show no signs of weathering or needing touch-ups.

Lemme know when you’re ready to do the interior. I think I have more pix on a disc…

Great pictures, Mik. Got any in color? I’d like to just create some backdrops.
Was trying to figure out the price signs then noticed London on the last photo.

Depends, do postcards from the teens count?

Those are pretty cool. I doubt if I can use any for a backdrop, but they sure do give me some ideas. Thanks.
I changed the finial on the turret roof. I used some Magic Sculpt to fill in the gaps and added some more sections of tubing to give it a different look. I used Sophisticated Finishes Blackened Bronze for the finish. Still need another coat.
Now that is N-I-C-E !!
Thats a REALLY nice color. Gonna have to steal that for something, not sure what!
What they said…
Wow that looks good!!!
That came out nice. I agree it’s a great color.
While waiting on my styrene order, I decided to tackle some of the embossed details. My first attempts were utter failures. I tried both Sculpey and Magic Scuplt, but couldn’t get consistent results. Nothing looked good. Today I went over to Michael’s and search the store for about half an hour. Found lots of almost possibilities. Finally, I ran across some embossed metal frames. They looked like they might do the trick. Certainly not an exact match - or even close, but I think they’ll give it the look I want. It wasn’t as easy to cut up as I thought - nor are the parts as symmetrical as I thought, but I think these pieces will work.

I still have one frame left, but you can see the cut out pieces next to it.
Nice choices.
There sure are a lot of those kind of details on your prototype. At least some of them are simple shapes
Excellent idea!
