I’m impressed. You’re tenacity is simply not to be believed.
I want to tease you but I am the same way. I hate when something gets stuck in my craw and i have to figure it out. Its almost paralyzing.

Yes its quite annoying actually. Oh well its not like I’m in a rush or anything for this build. If I don’t finish it in the 30 days than I just add it to the stack of unfinished projects. Creating stacks and stacks of unfinished projects is something I’m really good at!
You should finish this one , it’s the easiest one you have started in a while. Besides the most of the tank will be inside the loading chute. FINISH IT!!

Oh I will finish it at some point. This decal discovery is coming to a close soon and I think the alcohol bath has been doing it’s trick. Hopefully today or tomorrow, I can reprime the tank/truck and proceed forward after I reglue a few details that come off in the soak. Nothing major and will take only a few minutes to fix.
On the truck front, I started painting the interior and exterior of the cab so that’s proceeding as planned. Still need to bash up a airflow thingy on the cab roof along with the drop axle ( I keep putting that off).
airflow thingy is not important.

Hey it may not be to you, but by golly that’s going to help the mpg on the 1/29 deliveries… I’m actually pondering how to bash it up. I’m thinking it’s probably going to be easier to use some brass scrap and the solder up a rear wire bracket or something.
I kinda got distracted with waxing skis for a XC skiing adventure tomorrow so no progress expected until Sunday if then. So much for trying to find time for the other assorted junk that was supposed to go along with this build. If only I had decided to make it a welded tank from the start, I’d be almost done
Some brass and forming it sounds like the easiest way to get the flowing shape of it, will look just like the real one when done, besides thats a weak (non turbocharged) little engine in that truck so it would need help.
you have a bag of lead shot or a small anvil to shape it on? Anyway enjoy the weekend skiing hiking with long sticks on your feet, 9 or (drinking with buddies away from everyone)
It’s just one day of skiing with my Mom, sister and one of her kids. Should be a fun adventure.
He HAS to finish it. I am coming for a visit and will be sorely disappointed if I show up and its not done
I too have been cross country skiing this weekend in Bethel Maine. Not much snow but Gould Academy has a nicely groomed area through the woods.
Enjoy your weekend!

Well shoot, I better get cracking on this between today and next Sunday. Right now, I think I’m back to week 1 of this build… All the walkways came off during the paint removal process. And I’m still annoyed by the rivet decal issue…
On the good news, the decal guy is working on finalizing the design… Whoo hoo. Now I just have to figure out the colors.

Unfortunately I don’t get to ski as often as I would like. Something having to do with a two hour drive in one direction to get to the snow and groomed runs. I’ve been dealing with some hip issues lately and boy it was nice to ski on the flats, but and decent hill that required a snowplow down or a herringbone up was killer on the hip stretching. My mom was already chopping at the bit to go again.
In my typical fashion of two steps forward and one step back…
I painted the entire cab green and now I’m regretting it… I think the paint scheme is a white cab with a green stripe and then all the logo stuff and dot information/truck weight on the bottom ( so Pete, I need some inside scoops on a good GVW weight and a dot number)
I might try attempting to mask off the green stripe and then repaint in white ( which is a super hard color to cover). Or maybe mask the green, reprime and then do white.
I got a preview of the decal designs and I have to say they look sharp. And multiple sources (Devon, my wife, and another modeler of this area) all voted unbiasedly on the green/yellow design.
Mask and leave the stripes green, paint the rest white or tan, a slight green tint would be cool. as for the gvwr , 3 axles are 54,500, so another 18500 for the pusher axle would be about right, Washington has some different laws than others so I’m guessing here. But this would be a good guess.
What’s the other requirements for labeling on trucks?
DOT number ( how many numbers and about how tall) and the GVW ( how tall?) The only other thing is a company name but I’ve got that complete with the logo.
I’ve made my peace with the tank being a welded tank vs a riveted tank. I’m not about to fix everything and reprime just to have the issues of the decals pop up again.
Once I get my workbench cleared off again after the ski waxing mess. Which btw was an amazing day and I’m ready to move back to snow land where I can go XC skiing in 10-30 minutes vs 2+ hours…
Craig, a unit number and DOT number , company name and city. I have never had a gvwr on anything I drove, not sure if it’s a Wa. Stste law, but even when I ran there I didn’t have that. Where ever it’s located there needs to be a fire extinguisher sign on that door or cubby hole door. One truck I drove actually had painted “fire puter outer inside” a cop laughed at it and said that should say extinguisher. But that all he said.
DOT number, if you want use mine 1201416 supposed to be at least 2” tall numbers that contrast on the background but some are not that far off the main paint color.
You could look and see if their number is still out there FMCA or Safer.web you can lol up their name and see if the record is still there.
Well what to do you know Mr. Truck Driver…
Now I’ve got a DOT number… I hadn’t thought of a location either as being something on trucks.
Humm 2" lettering.
DOT number is Usually under the company name along with the city the company is from.
Well with only a few days left, my typical 2 steps for, 3-5 steps backwards is going to kill my plan on finishing this by Sunday even if I get a full weekend to work on it. I’m hereby granting myself a 2 week extension called the “Devon extension”… So that really means I will finish it sometime around April.
Long story short, I’m going to have to go back to square one on the tank, ie a hunk of 3" PVC. Too many mistakes are creeping in causing problems. But I think I’ve got a plan now that involves a lot less Bondo than I’m currently looking at…
