Yup, REAL Christmas spirit around here

Grrrrr .BEAUUUUTIFUL morning here in the Cambs/Northants borders - BUT - 33F.

Sadly, I have a BIIIG problem. In keeping with the spirit of Christmas [pending] some brave young soul has taken the valve cap off off one the rear tyres on my old Benz and let all the air out - the wheel-rim has cut through the rubber HE/she left the valve cap there beside it, to show me it was not an accident. WTH is wrong with people? Two mumfs ago I had four large wall-board screws driven through the sidewalls of all four tyres on the other car - that little piece of friendly neighbourshoodness cost me almost a thousand pounds for the four tyres - no Crappy Tyre over here… :frowning:

And I know nobody who owes me a grudge…I hardly speak to people in our street apart from our immediate neighbours [this is the UK, remember]…and as for vandalism. well, it’s not that kind of area - we usually never see it in any form.

People have nothing better to do. Is this person also getting your neighbors? If not do you have any enemies or someone you pissed off? That could be your person. If it was criminal mishief behavior they would be getting other cars as well. People are crazy

Well, I don’t have any enemies that I know of, truth to tell we don’t know that many people around here, except for the ex or currently serving personnel that we have known for years. I’ve never pissed off anybody to my knowledge, like I said, we only know a few folks around here that we served with, and not to put too fine a point on it, the most junior rank still serving around here is Lt col - not a vandalish neighbourhood. Our US personnel neighbours are all medical types, and we get on like mad - two of them help out at our railway…

It’s a mystery to me.

Terry,

I’m sorry for the vandalism trouble, that is always frustrating.

Did you file a report on this? Police are sent where crime reports are high. If no reports are filed everyone thinks its a quiet neighborhood and they can slack off there to put more emphasis on the areas with high crime reports.

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah....file a report? hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha..

I think you get the idea…

At Warp factor 8 it would take 20 minutes to get here from the nearest police station. At the speed they usually move at, maybe 3/4 hour or more. Sure, I reported it, but only to get a ‘crime number’ to quote to the insurance folks, who, BTW, were not interested in just one tyre being destroyed, especially after the last time when FOUR got done. We have a ‘vandal damage’ clause in our car insurance that covers damage to the bodywork, but tyres are NOT covered by such a clause for many reasons that they can come up with.

I’m sure you are familiar with the old but true aphorism - ‘When seconds count, the police are only minutes away…’

It IS a quiet neighbourhood - that’s why they took away our resident village ‘bobby’ about fifteen years ago. The last time we saw a police vehicle here I was so shocked that I immediately called in and reported that there were two people dressed up in police uniforms and driving what looked like a police car around the village, and did they know about it. I got a ten seconds’ worth of silence from the police control room operator, before he told me that, noooooo, it was a genuine police car with real live policemen in it, and not to be overly concerned by its presence unless I had been naughty.

tac,

Sorry to hear that!

Now for the practical (joker) part: Build a two story garage for the critters, the upstairs being for an indoor train layout.

Any even mild disagreements with any neighbors?
Ever scold someone’s eles kid?
Someone who thinks your Benz isnt Green enough?

Maybe time to invest in some motion activated security lights, they even sell faux security cameras that are motion activated.

The old old timers used to recommend a Model T Ford coil grounded to the bodywork, and a rubber isolated switch hidden under the bumper. Just don’t forget it and touch the car. 12v through a 6v buzz coil will dump you on your butt.

“keep yer friends close, and yer enemies EVEN CLOSER”!! Regal I think security cameras are in order here. Even a cheap one would give you who what when where and how!!

oh yeah the final touch a high powered rifle! Merry Christmas

The farmers around here used to keep a shotgun filled with rock salt for us little nippers that would steal his apples. We only tried it once, and once was enough.

Start breeding some of these

Any even mild disagreements with any neighbors? - Not a thing and never has been - and we have been here 22 years now.

Ever scold someone’s eles kid? - Over here in yUK you dare not talk to ANY kid for fear of being arrested on charges of paedophilia and child-grooming, and like I said, this is a mature neighbourhood - there may well be kids who might do this kind of thing for fun but since we live in a dead-end street, and the only kids who pass here are in their late teens and attend very high-priced private schools, I doubt that any of them are the culprit[s]. I WILL bring the matter up at the next parish council meeting I attend, though.

Someone who thinks your Benz isnt Green enough? - Well, I have two of them here - but like I said- this is a well-off neighbourhood - nobody really notices a couple of M-B’s here. For example, my next door neighbour on one side is the chief accountant for the Mormon Church in the UK - on the other side is the head of the local county water board authority laboratory.

Maybe time to invest in some motion activated security lights, they even sell faux security cameras that are motion activated - Good plan - I’ll think very seriously about it.

Well, I’ve got seven ‘high-powered’ rifles’ but using them would only make me popular with my fellow prisoners.

Using firearms to protect property is not part of the yUK scene.

Sadly.

That sucks. About 4-5 years ago I had a problem with some kid vandalizing my Christmas lights. No reason to it at all. Just a case of a brat with nothing better to do, and my lights happened to be more convenient than most.

This year we have the holiday pleasure of 3 yoyo’s on an armed robbery spree… They’ve hit 2 restaurants, 2 hotels, several stores (4 I think? Kim’s sister was one of the clerks at one) and at least 2 gas stations, and those are the ones that I know of, since early November.

I could say something about the local Barney Fifes and that all they can find is donuts, but you’ve heard them all before.
