You Yanks crack me up!

It is widely suspected that the Prime Minister of Canada will call a general election tomorrow. That election will be over by October 17.

The US election seems to have been going on for a year now, and it’ll still be going when the Canadian election is a mere memory.

Yup, a totally unnecessary election, at vast expense to the taxpayers – shades of L’il Jonny Cretin. It will result in another minority government – Tory, if we’re lucky; otherwise the Dimmygrits will be back, secure once again in their belief that they are the Natural Governing Party …

I was mainly commenting on the comparative brevity of Canadian elections versus the marathon being run to the south.

I predict another Conservative minority. I think there was a possibilty that Harper could have won a majority but he blew it by calling an unnecessary election. It’s a kinda Catch 22.

Personally I like minority governments. But then I’m voting for the Hippopotamus Party. I think if they were to realize beer was medical necessity and pipe it to every house, they would win an outright majority. But that’s just me.

None of us like it, but we can’t seem to get rid of it.

Fast elections might be a good idea…if we had a mechanism for a “no confidence” vote to remove an elected official.
But we are stuck with our choice for four years. Time to think about our choices is a good thing…even though most of us are sick of politics by the time the election rolls around.

These days, I think the campaigning for the next election starts as soon as the results are released. Maybe before.

True. Hillary is already working on 2012. Evidenced by her lackadaisical campaigning for Obama. Her lack of criticism of Sara Palin as well as Bill Clinton’s relative silence. If Obama is elected…she has no chance in 2012. Obviously more concerned with her own success. Ralph

Ole Willy is just hoping he can get a squeeze of that Barracuda.

 I can see why. Looks better than some of the younger stuff he was squeezing.
But I wouldn’t want to get that Barracuda mad!

Canada, as of today is gearing up for an election. Very short show. The writ was dropped today and the election is on October 14th…very civilized…

Oh yes, small mercy that the campaign will be relatively short. OTOH if we could convince all the candidates to give speeches only in an arable field it would cut down on materials and labour.

Of course we were supposed to have a fixed election date ( by law), but apparently that applies only if it pleases the outgoing PM (Primo Machinator).

I feel so sorry for our friends to the north. You miss all the fun. Well, that’s not really true. You can experience it vicariously. You have LSC and Fox News!

Possibly apocryphal tale told of Mitch Hepburn, one-time Preem of Ont.

During an election rally in a farming community, ol’ Mitch gets up on a manure spreader to deliver his speech.

Voice from the crowd: “Start 'er up, Bob! She’s loaded!”

Well, he couldn't get the weenies on the other side of the House to defeat his government ...

Yeah and as great a Machinator as he is, he still couldn't get things moving along to his liking, could he? Takes quite a few people for the tango in Ottawa.

Hmm. Time to eat crow. The US election is over while the Canadian election has apparently started up again. I’m voting for a Conservative-Liberal coalition.

Kevin,

When we get to vote (again!!!) I’m voting for the same as last time! I’m sure it will do as much good, too!

OTOH since what’s going on at the municipal level is much closer … well we turfed them rascals OUT! My hopes are with the trickle-up theory or should that be the percolating theory.  If we can do at the local level, it should be possible at the national level.

BTW the ConLib coalition would be just peachy, they truly deserve each other! Getting all of them in one (Cabinet) room would be the solution; call the meeting to order, lock the doors and throw the keys away!

PS small rations and only water until we see white smoke from Harper’s head.

Sounds a bit like our opposition Con and very Con coalition, at the moment.
They are having revolts in the ranks.
Even got to some voting against Party orders last week.

Still I guess it is a diversion from them having to admit it was under their watch when the causes of the World economy tanking were getting geared up in the last 12 years.

My deepest sympathies.
