Large Scale Central

WSRR Wood Fired Pizza Oven

Is my hobbit home done yet?

Won’t be long now, John.

Dan an amazing work of masonry. Hope you realize how high you are setting the bar for your layout’s bridges, aqueducts and brick/stone buildings. You know we are not going to let you get away with any of that fake, carved styrene, resin cast, weak a$$ stuff that Ray Dunakin does; it will be real stone, real brick, real concrete or know the reason why! (oops sorry Ray didn’t mean to sound harsh (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)). Oh, and don’t think you can distract us with tasty pizza. Although you are welcome to try.

There I think you get the idea.

…remember you brought this on yourself. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Boomer, I believe I could build realistic scale models of the structures in those photos with all the cutoffs generated during this project. I don’t have the skill set to do it, but I have the materials (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif). Please explain the middle photo above. It’s quite mesmerizing, but I can’t figure out what the heck it is.

Aww, B.C. Paws is a handsome fella.

Hmm, all of a sudden I’m wondering, and haven’t the first clue why, whether there has there ever been a wood fired pizza restaurant named Pizza Igloo.

{and based on what was seen while Dad was in Navy, they would probably acronymize Wood fired Pizza Igloo as WOOFIRPIGLOO}

Forrest, my wife tells everyone that I am building a brick igloo. I just hope she doesn’t get the idea that it will become my dog house(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Looks about right size for a cat house.

Can you say cat house on a family type forum?

Why not as you guys argue about what to argue about and cats and houses are far from the argument that one doesn’t even know what one is posting about but just posting …I’m personally enjoying Dans build even it it isn’t train related. Or is it? You do need to feed the crew when they show up for a run??

Dan

Each of the pictures are of different structure. I don not remember the name of the center one but is looking through the center of the supports under an aqueduct somewhere in Europe. The last one is a aqueduct and bridge combo, reportedly the largest masonry brick structure in the world.

Dan I really like the brick holder upper thingy! (I am sure thats the technical term). Did you get that with the WFO or was thet a seperate purchase. I guess if that is Dans Doghouse, you will not have to worry about getting cold in there! By the way , drag racers have a great use of the WFO Wide F-----g Open! Oh and concentrate, no need to be thinking about building brick viaducts or mesmorizingbrick structures(other than the WFO). The line is forming behind me, I am camping out side your house to get the first piece o pizza that comes outta the WFO oven. Hoping for a meat lovers pizza. Hurry up now we are in May, and thats when you went all Devon on us and said it would be done!

IS IT???

Great pictures, Boomer. You think it would be too much to have a brick log flume on a backwoods logging RR? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Pete, its called an IT (indispensable tool). It keeps the oven round and sets the angle for each course assuring that the hemispherical shape is maintained. I built it using a turnbuckle purchased at Lowes, a few 3/8" nuts, some red oak and an insert I designed and printed on the 3d printer. Here it is under construction.

The swivel was made using a caster frame, a 5/16" bolt, nuts and a couple bearings.

I also used it to layout the dome on the floor tiles by replacing the brick holder with a block of wood and a pencil.

Here the IT is being used to locate the inner diameter of the oven on the inside of the arch.

But the main use for the IT is to place each brick in the correct orientation as shown below.

I hope that wasn’t too much candy for a nickel (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif).

It will be ready to cook pizza by Memorial Day. Not necessarily complete, but operational.

Dan, that’s a cool tool!

Crafty Bastard !!

Don’t know about that, but my preacher dad didn’t like hearing it in his car coming out of his youngest boy’s mouth! Too young to know better I changed the dog house when my sister goofed on something … ‘Keep that up and you’ll be in the …’

Well Sean, I will claim half of that statement, but crafty, I’m not so sure (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif). The idea of the tool came from a WFO forum. I just came up with making the swivel with bearings. Many an oven have been built without the IT so it is definitely not required, but it certainly makes it easy for a novice such as myself. Thanks for following along.

That’s a pretty amazing technique Dan, very cool!

I don’t know Dan …when you are done making that oven you could probably reuse some of that engineering and make a wicked Kama Sutra swing for when the kids ain’t home.

Nice work !

You make a good point, Rooster. Kid will be going off to college about the time I get done, so that would work out just right (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif).
