Hello …
Well past the due date… what’s up Dan??? Was there s pizza party??? Did the pizzas come in boxes or already made or are they still waiting for the first one from a wood fired oven? We are waiting. Not so patiently
Guys …read the last 2 posts on page 3 he is probably quite busy!
Is it done yet ?
I agree with Sean, we NEED UPDATES and my pizza by mail has not arrived yet!!!
Come on Dan show us the finished product!!
Sean & Pete you have managed to roust me out of my summer slumber. Not sure I’ve been around LSC long enough to build up enough vacation days to cover my absence (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif). I hope Bob doesn’t dock my pay too much, lol. I have made progress on the WFO, however. She is not completely done, but she is very close. Between summer chores, getting the boy settled in at college, hectic work schedule, among other things, I’ve not been able to make as much progress as I would have liked, but some is better than none. Here is the most recent photo, although I have made more progress than this one shows.
I still need to add the insulation on the dome and then I can start the curing fires. I’ve really been dreading the insulation task. That stuff is quite nasty, but I’ll get it done hopefully right after Christmas but before Mik’s Challenge 2019.
Here is a shot looking up the vent of the oven.
This gives you some idea how I transitioned from a 27" x 14" opening to an 8" x 8" opening.
Believe it or not, I have been working on some train projects the last few weeks. I started a thread a couple of years (wow, its been that long) ago about my reworking a 3-truck shay. I’ve made some progress getting it back together. I’ll update that thread in a few days.
More to come.
Cool!
Thanks for the update …
Get back to work …slacker… I wanted to insert "Devoning "in here but you sound like you were buzzy… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
I resemble that remark, Sean (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif). Here lately, I could be the poster child for it, but I’m back in the saddle for a while now.
Good to see you back, Dan was about to call and issue a BOLO or have them take the door on a
welfare check. How did the pizza party get by with no
pizza to party with??
Finally a nice weekend to work on the WFO. Took down the canopy and added the first two (of 3) layers of ceramic fiber insulation on the dome. I need to run to Atlanta and get another box of insulation to finish. I’ve got enough if I want to use offcuts, but I prefer not to do that. After the insulation is complete, I will cover it with a couple inches insulating mortar mix and then build a dog house over the dome. Assuming I get the remaining nsulation this week, I can start curing fires next weekend
Started with this:
Set up a temp cutting table on the deck next to oven and started cutting insulation. Have I mentioned this is some nasty stuff to fool with (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)
More to come. Thanks for following along.
This may be a dumb question, ( something I ask constantly), but is it toxic , really itchy or something else? If it bad , I bet it is not cheap eithera
It’s only toxic if you breathe it so you have to wear a respirator and yes, it is very itchy if you get it on your skin. So you must be covered from head to toe, hence why I did not want to work with it during the summer (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)In the big scheme of things its not too expensive, especially when you consider that it is probably the most important part of the oven when it comes to heat retention.
Hey … This thread looks a little familiar … Today is April 1st … so do not believe anything Dan says about this oven today . (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Looking great Dan, see ya in a couple of weeks, once you get the bugs out!
