Working on my plow

Well i was going to post a photo of rebuilding my snow plow, but was laughing at another post of cluttered workbenches, So whey the heck not post mine. Of course my brother is a true neat nick and this freaks him out. so if you look closely you may see a plow in the shops. I do not know how I can find anything. The bottles in the background? Rubbing Alcohol…I have a few freight cars to strip and repaint.

John

Looking good John, thats the way a train work bench should look with lots of things going on all at once. Is anything getting done?

haha Chuck I was afraid someone was going to ask that question! Yeah there are a few projects here and there.

Okay the wreck rebuild on the plow is almost complete. Shop crews added more lighting and a warning beacon on the roof for added safety.

Looking Good!!!

nice

Looking ready to go to work! Do you think you’ll get any more snow?

A messy workbench is a sign of a creative mind! And I can usually find everything I need – and then some!

Doug there seems to be a slight chance of snow this weekend.

My mind may be cluttered but not my bench…and yes John’s work “area” looks like a post-tsunami area…

After a couple of years in this hobby post another picture!

I actually cleaned off my workbench believe it or not.

When are you planning on making the decals for the reefers? I have not stripped the paint off the other three cars yet.

Done. Sitting on the table for this weekend. I did one set = one reefer. What are we gonna do for all the other lettering and numbering? I gave you a couple of sheets of that decal paper.

30 years in the Defense Industry did it to me. Hughes Aircraft Company/Raytheon in El Segundo CA. You know making stuff that finds and kills things…Day or Night…

I thought you were going to do all the reporting marks etc, just not the logos.

I actually might do some cleaning. I lost a couple clamps somewhere in the mess!

I think that picture of Mike’s work bench is “stealth technology”. You can’t really see the mess, it’s in another dimension. An empty work bench is NOT a natural state of nature.

John have you plowed with the coupler in place yet? And how did it work? Nice looking unit! Sean

The coupler whilst a nice touch, hinders actual snow removal, which places this one as a third stringer in my snow removal fleet.

The shop crew is actually considering permanent removal, of course that would be to the horror of the Society of Amalgamated Rivet Counters… (god they are a testy bunch).

The other snow removal equipment consists of two gondola based wedge plows, the primary being the reliable and popular Aristo-Craft and the secondary a home built gondola wedge plow. We have a dedicated Alco FA/FB set for power, using cowl units aids with controlling excess snow build up on the units themselves.

My brother and I had discussed the feasibility of adding a rotary plow to the fleet to deal with the occasional heavy snows. That project has not even made it to the drawing board yet.

Go for it dude!!!
It is so much fun to use!
Sean

Was at the Cumbres and Toltec recently at Chama, NM. Two rotaries sitting in the yard. 4 feet of snow on the rails in the mountains and it has been melting. Do the math for what ever scale. Eventually the smart move is to sit by the fire and drink beer. Today is the last day of Winter.
