Working on my plow

Sean, so far we have looked at a bunch of you tube videos, Jerry’s Rotary…the challenge is the impeller. Once that design feature is out of the way, the rest looks pretty straight forward.

Yeah Rick, I agree, did a little work outside and going to call it quits for a week or so.

You mean like this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbDL79akR78 I used an impella from a vacume. If I can do it any one can! Sean

Shucks in my case the impeller is the easy part. Ever since seeing Marty’s machine at the inaugural MWLSTS and also his impeller … spotted a couple kirbys in seperate dumpsters while making deliveries in res.constructionareas. Been trying halfheartedly in popping off the impeller from the shaft of one ! I think i need a piston/pulley puller is needed !? Acquired a olde retired batt’ powered drill . . . . but still it is the design aspect of the power train and cowling that would have me perplexed !

One of these years !!!

No need to remove the impeller!

We have a dedicated Alco FA/FB set for power, using cowl units aids with controlling excess snow build up on the units themselves.
I plow with a K-27 and a homemade plow on an LGB powered tender from way back when...the plow is an inch narrower than the outside frame loco.

Uses a lot of oil on those side rods

Thanks Sean !

Sean, check this out…I see this same one come up on Ebay every few months…

I guess when I hit the lotto I will be able to purchase the $4995 Rotary from Train-Li too.

John

Nah, you can build one this week! We got a dusting but you probably got enough to put a rotary to work!

Doug I will toss the Russell Plow on the track and take a photo of it pushing some snow on the deck… The railroad to nowhere (sitting on the steel platform is just above the snow level. (the railroad to no where is a failed Obama ARRA project, ran out of money)

We have no snow and it’s supposed to be in the 80s by midweek. If you believe weather.com!

I was thinking of Ric and his comment to sit by the fire and call it a day. In the photo one can see the timbers of a snowshed.

Once the weather changed, we were able to open the deck line. Taking a bite

I’m getting frost bite just lookin at the pitchers…

It was in the 60s here today. I spent most of the day pulling weeds and cleaning track!

With the extreme melt off going on, I quickly assembled another snowshed to cover the track where the wye expansion comes out of the train room.

Another nice day in your local mountains.

Dont you just love it when you get snow in late March. Most of my snow is gone from last week. Some patches in the shaded areas.

Doug as much as I hate weeds I actually cant wait to see some start growing. Nothing wants to grow yet not even the grass.

If you really miss weeds and grass, you can come to my house and pull some!
