Large Scale Central

Work continues on the L

I have started construction on the L last weekend.
I have 1 turn into the front room that I can’t make with the 5 ft track I have to go to 4 ft curves.

The question is will a 55 ton Bachmann shay or the Bachmann Climax have trouble with this turn?

If this wont work maybe I can do a cross over from the far wall in the hallway.
I will have to take down a good portion of what I had already put up.
The 4 ft curve is better known as Buck snort curve.

If I can figure out where I put the photos I took I’ll post them.
I’m still not sure if I want to run that big Shay up there.
This is a fairly heavy Loco , true it’s not as heavy as my LGB 2-8-4 B&O , but it has more parts.

Naa I used to run Shays on that pitiful track that came in train sets…Shays will follow two lines scratched in the dirt…

Thanks for the info Bart.
I used up all of my brackets, so now I will have to make a new batch. So far I have 1/4 of my track bed set. It is going fairly well not too many problems.
I will have to beef up the buck snort curve though. That’s a tough one above the closet door.

Up date…
Trackage on the main line is completed.
Yard= 1 siding is completed.
Construction is continuing on the final siding . Switches are in wiring has yet to be started.
I have about. 8 ft of roadbed to construct and hangers to build before I can lay the track.
I should finish the trackage this week end.
The L track is stronger than I anticipated. I can run the heaviest loco I can find with no problems.
I pulled 4 tank cars full of water 3 log cars with full loads of real wood and a box car, flat car, observation car. gondola and cabin car these had no added weight.
I pulled that with my 2 truck 25 ton Climax. My big Hauler 2-6-0 utility couldn’t move it.
I didn’t try the U25B Aristo Craft.
I may have to add weight to it first it seems to be a little on the light side.

I was amazed on how much pulling power the 25 ton Climax has.
Even though it was made by Bachmann Spectrum it is a real bear.

Hollywood sez an update must include pictures
Rules are rules, ya know

We want pics We want pics We want pics We want pics

I will get picks up soon. I’m trying to set up a car cam. and take a video of my track.
I’ll get it up soon well at least the still shots.
The track is all in. I have switches and track shut offs for the sidings to finish yet.

I have a short clip of a rare LGB B&O Streamliner. Shot in my back yard at my steps.
I will get more shots of my indoor trackage up soon. check this out.

Here is another

The second group the middle picture is a picture of the White Deer and Loganton RY Check how high the RR warning sign is. I will be putting in building fronts in the corners. May be a sidewalk also. Do you think it’s too cheap looking?

it definitely could be... if you think so!

british largescale rule no. 8: “it is my railway. if you don’t like it, get lost.”

you wouldn’t have put up your pics, if you wouldn’t like them, would you?

My camera holding isn’t the greatest. my tripod isn’t tall enough and I was standing on a ladder to get this angle.
I’ll take a picture standing on the floor so you can see it as you would normally.
I’ll post that in a bit.

Two shots from standing in the middle of my basement family room.

This covers the main beam that runs the length of the house. I will have my Climax loco in the pic, but it is in the maintenance shed right now. Nothing wrong with it, just routine maintenance.

I caught the Climax on track cleaning duties Friday afternoon. As a true rail fan I got a picture. I noticed that the track cleaning car was hooked up backwards. I asked the crew why they did that, and the answer was they reverse the cleaning car every so often. Check out the picture.

Probably won’t find this kind of thing at my house, the higher the track, the higher the anxiety.

Sounds like a plan.

Hehe! :D

So far I’ve stayed under a foot but I always liked the Terror Trestle that that guy in Oregon built. It was over eight feet tall.

I like the track up. I have 6 grand children ranging from 14 to 3 yrs. olt.
Bunches of nephews and nieces. The height is of great value in keeping every thing in tact, and fairly safe.
Then on the other hand I got my family room back for people use.

Terror Trestle? I don’t think I have seen that one.
Sounds good though.

That is quite a trestle. It even had an opening underneath to walk through!

There is a layout near the Tehachipi Loop in California that has a trestle or bridge that he had to string a net underneath. The up canyon winds blew a few engines and trains off it and due to the drop their fate was questionable. I’ve had a few derailments on mine due to the wind but none on my trestles – yet!

And here’s the trestle!
