I think it got lost in the mail it has not arrived yet Randy.

Looks great

Okay i finally got the curved trestle installed today. Been sitting out in the backyard since last winter. First I took up the sod and dug down to hard dirt. Don’t need to go too far in my yard tho. Then back filled with 3/4" crush for drainage, set some scrap 12" ceramic floor tiles at the right elevation to support the bents. Then installed the trestle and added some more crush to hold everything in place. Seems to work, the trestle seems to be fairly stable with the crush. Also started adding some plantings as well. Now just need to build a deck bridge and some shorter trestle to connect to the end of the line.

That’s going to be nice Randy!

WOW !!! Beautiful work.

That will be quite impressive when you get it finished
It will be a great photo spot, shooting from below the trestle up at the train.

Looking good, this is almost DaJaVeu Randy, curved trestle with truss bridge. No wonder you could give me such good advice, you’re the expert to all thing wood…

Did I miss something somewhere? I love the trestle and bridge and I could make out the depot you just built in the back ground, but what is this beautiful looking structure?

Or have I completely lost my mind and just don’t remember it?

Thanks for the kind comments guy. @ Ken…that is my first attempt of building something for the RR when I got into GRing about 2 1/2 years ago. It’s a single stall loco shed with a small shop addition.

Dang Randy. Your modeling is incredible. I’ve got to get Scotty to beam me up sometime. I’d love to see your RR and learn something of your modeling skills. One question, I tried used cedar shingles on a model I built, only to have them pop off. What do you use to seal them in order to keep them on? I find they tend to absorb moisture, swell and then pop off. I also learned not to use silicon sealant to glue them on with. Doesn’t last long at all outdoors. Now use wood glue.

Thanks Rich, but I believe they are still the 10’ rule.
As for the shingles I run a bead of DAP Alex Plus acrylic latex clear along the roof, then bed the row of shingles in the caulk leaving a very slight gap between. Wait for the caulk to cure then proceed with the next row. The next bead of caulk gets applied at the top of the previous row of shingles. The loco shed has been outside for a year now and no signs of shingles lifting or coming off. The caulking stays flexible when cured so I think that might have something to do with it. Allowing the shingles to expand and contract with the weather changes.

Great work Randy! Beautiful railroad. I can hardly wait for photos of the first train across that trestle.

Randy,

What did you use to make the metal rods. I ask because I’m building a wood deck bridge and need some metal rods.

Jake I got them from Micro Fasteners. 2-56 X 12" long mild steel rods. A pack of 20 is just over 8 bucks.
Look under ‘tools & misc.’ to find them.

Thanks, I’ll look them up
