Who is going to be first? Awesome critter to bash

So for some reason someone had to post this on an 0n30 page, and it is just screaming to me to be modeled in G. It is a 1948 International KR-11 truck built to switch out cars. Still trying to find more info on the build, where is was at etc… Being a fan of both railroading and International tractors and trucks, this is just screaming at me hahaha

Does anyone know of a place that makes a model of a International KR-11 or similar truck, even just a cab?

Try this.

Or this.

That looks like a good start, and being diecast would add a little weight. The first one has the right look, and with a new bed and paint, would look nice!! Would be nice if I could get just the cab from it.

A couple magic carpet type drives under the hood and bed, with some lead weight in between, and it would be a great little switch critter. Looks like my mind is running crazy again lol

That’s awesome! I wonder what that thing sticking out of the side is? Maybe just a clearance indicator?

I was thinking the same Ray and after a bit of pondering I think it is a mirror positioned just so with the side mirror that the driver could see where he is shoving the car since the cab of that truck is so narrow. The driver wouldn’t be able to see around the box car he is pushing without it…

That truck would be a neat project.

I thought it was a mirror also and that explanation makes perfect sense

I thought it was to catch the mail bags. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

I was curious about that as well, but a mirror does make perfect sense. The cab mirror looks like it might be adjusted right to see the bigger one in the back, then they could see right down the side of the car it is moving. This just might become a winter project for me (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Any one have any experience building single axle gearboxes that could shed some light, or know where to buy them at. I thought about maybe a pair of Hartland Woody blocks, but they might be a little tall and big to fit under the hood. Magic carpet drives are crazy when they pop up. Maybe a double pole motor with a pair of gearboxes on the axles?

Actually found a 48’ International resin KR truck cab, exact same as the prototype, that would work perfectly, but don’t know that I could pay that much. I would need a financial backer for the project hahaha

I’ve used NWSL for On3 gearboxes and related stuff…

I have a slow connection so I didn’t wait for the pdf to open.

I couldn’t find a scale. Do you know, Try?

Thanks John, ill check into it. Wouldn’t have to be super heavy as it would only move 1 or 2 cars at a time.

Steve, the kit is 1:25 scale. a little small for some of my remaining equipment, but would probably work well with both standard and narrow gauge that way

Hey Aaron,

Saw your family at Andy’s yesterday. You were missed.

That is an interesting truck. For it to be so heavily advertising of IH, it might be from moving cars at one of there plants. Might look for more details that way. The mirror brackets and platform for uncoupling are going to be pretty thin in 1.20.3. So I’m guessing all brass rod and angle pieces for platforms for crew to stand on. Did you catch the uncoupling bracket at hood height?

It looks like the truck is rolling on its regular tire wheels, not rail wheels of any sort. Also, I wonder what is in the bed? Notice the large fuel tank, and the five gallon jerry can, in case the fuel farm is too far away.

Steve,

Too my eye, it looks like railroad wheels mounted on the regular axles. And as for the bed, I would think it would be filled with some sort of ballast to help give the truck a grip.

Hubcaps and all, eh, Craig? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Yes Steve hubcaps and all !

Aaron I used a belt drive on my railtruck (just throwing options out there)

That’s awesome Ric, mom said she ran into you there and talked with you. Missed being there, but maybe next year ill make one or two

I am thinking so. I learned it was at the Chatham plant, which I think was a big International truck and tractor plant. Still trying to find more. I definitely see a lot of delicate brass work needed for this rig, especially that side mirror on the bed. I did notice the uncoupling rod, interesting set up for sure
