Whats your camera?

OK…I’ll start out this show…I went into Wal MArt last Wednesday to buy a pair of sunglasses and came out with $300 worht of digital camera and accessories…Wal MArt is evil like that…

ITs a Kodak 2812 IS I was debating between it and a Fuji of almost identical characteristics…but the Kodak won out cause of the 32 meg of onboard memory…I also got a 2gig memory card to go with it…at 8.1 MP thats 700 plus images…the Fuji was a full 10 MP but I’m not taking pictures from space! and the 12x zoom is good too…really the first camera I’ve owned that requires a lens cap.

I took it to Cass this past weekend for the Whistles, Wings, and Wildflowers tour, and am ever so impressed with it… Unlike the HP digitals I’ve owned, the Kodak is very intuitive and easy to learn, almost takes pictures on its own…the only ‘bad’ shot I got was cause I was trying to use auto focus in a pouring down rain shower…got a good picture of the rain…the locomotive however is a little blurry…

Hey, looky, looky another forum! Great!

OK, camera

  1. Canon Digital Rebel (6.3M pixels)

  2. Panasonic LUMIX TZ5 (9M pixels)
This one also does HD video and a whole bunch of other neat stuff.

I guess I’m a dinosaur. I use:

  1. Canon F-1 (mechanical, not the electronic one)
  2. Canon T70
  3. Konica Autoreflex T4

All use film.

Real simple modern point & shoot here:

Pentax Optio Z10: 8 Mpixels, 7x optical zoom with macro focus, and lots more shooting modes than I’ll ever use.
I like the new Optio because the lense is all internal: No mechanism and nothing sticking out. $199 @ Costco.

We added a 2GB SD card and the camera now holds ~950 pix at full resolution. And those 8Mpixel shots are great when printing in larger formats!

My Canon A1 (mechanical) with a 50mm and telephoto zoom lens is officially retired.

Happy RRng,

Jerry

Steve, Steve,

That means I have to add my Yashica FR, fully manual with film and it could do with a fine tuning by the masters which aren’t around anymore.

Pentax *ist DL. Takes all my old (but incredibly useful) 35mm slr lenses.

Nice to see this new forum!

I upgraded to a Cannon Digital Rebel xti just a few months ago from a 3.2 MP Fuji S700Z(oom). I’m finally getting used to it and have been getting some good pictures lately. Its 10 MP which is a huge leap from 3. The all purpose lens I bought has very range between wide angel and telephoto. I didn’t want to bne changing lenses all the time and with the Fuji I got spoiled with the 10X Zoom.

El-Cheapo Kodak EasyShare CX4310.

Takes nice pictures. No controls. You have to wait a very long time.

CANON Power Shot S3, has a great zoom and you can shoot videos on it up to 60 minutes long. All my youTube videos were shot with it.

For quick snap shots, especially family photos and such, I use an Olympus Stylus Epic 35mm film camera. I also have a Pentax ZX-M 35mm SLR with a 50mm lens, 28mm wide angle lens, and 80-200 zoom lens.

You can call me a dinosaur too…

Whenever I travel I use my Minolta Maxxum 50 SLR 35mm, 28-100zoom, 50-300 zoom, auto-focus. Nothing like having a 3x5" print in your hand.

Back in Dec I bought a Fuji S8000fd. as my old Canon finally bit the dust. 18x optical zoom 3 gig memory card. Has a macro for really close shots.

Nikon Coolpix 3200 with a whoping 2.3 megapixel max. Hey it was state of the art when I bought it…need a new camara needless to say.

Canon Rebel XT for most of my work, and my older Minolta DiMage s404 for close-up macro stuff like passenger car interior and things of that nature.

Later,

K

Film? You can still get film? I still have all my film cameras on the shelf. The last I purchased was a Minolta Maxxum that takes wonderful pictures, but these days I do almost entirely digital. You don’t really need a lot of pixels for images posted on the web. Best bet is to go with the better optics and imaging chip. Fortunately there are a lot of photography sites out there for comparisons. I like Canon, but there are other good options including Minolta.

Now I’m looking at going digital storage for video also. I have a nice Hitachi DV vidcam, but you still have to capture the video to edit on the computer. I have lots of tapes that have never been edited. I suppose this forum will be open for video also? ( I was just charging up the batteries last night to do a few video tests with the camera on a flat car.)

For Christmas I bought “me” a Fuji FinePix S700…7.1MP with 10X zoom…it’s pretty slick.

I have been pleased so far…I wish it was a little faster, but that’d be my only complaint.

Still need to spend some time to figure it out!

Paul, you will find the video section here. Or, just click on the “Video Beta” button on the blue tool bar, above.

Another old thread, but I want to play along anyways…

I shoot with Canon bodies. Right now I’m using some 40D’s and a hacked 300D. We have a bunch of backups too. Mostly Canon P&S’s and one Canon film body that still takes razor sharp images (when you can find film).

Jon.

I keep having a problem viewing the videos, some come out like a Laural & Hardy movie in speed and then you get the audio.

I have used many video sites and this is the only one that produces this problem.

I think it has to do with the conversion process to view it on the site.

Just my 2 cents worth. Oops market is down, now only worth .002 cents.

Yes there is a problem with the conversion of some videos. The ones I uploaded seem OK, but Bruce was never able to get it to convert his properly.

Mine never did either…
