Large Scale Central

What one does when not modeling

It ain’t complete.

You need a big ass potato along side the scale yet. Then you need Commissioner Gordon’s red bake lite telephone so you can plug it into the red outlet below the white one!

Nice to see you weigh-in on this topic.

I’ll just say that is a dam attractive display, well done.

The outlet cover is orange; and it’s Bakelite.
Other than that, hell yeah! Where do I get one??

One of my other hobbies. Don’t normally have this many going at the same time. Two are hard cider, we just pressed, the others are wine, plum, apricot, and two blueberry the blueberries had to come out of the freezer to make room for the pork coming back from the butcher this week.

Now Ms.Ethyl Glycol you know darn well I always add a spot of Marks cider to my tea!

We’ve been reduced to a skeleton crew at the shop

Didn’t know quite where else to put this but on day job today I encountered some model RR themed set dressing left over from Young Sheldon. I thought the non-descript/cleared poster was funny

Our family exploring. Brother, Nieces and Nephews, and their mates.
This is an old restored forest service mule barn.

Mountaintop fire lookout ruins.

For my wife and I, mostly music: Chancel Choir, Handbell Choir, and Panamania Steel Drum Band.

Dave, so many questions…

Are these base drums? What do they sound like?

Does playing in the winter vs summer change the sound or can you tune the drums?

I note that wearing a single glove while performing music has been around for a while. In the photo, you are wearing a set of fingerless gloves. Do the gloves play a part in playing the steel drum, or is it part of creating the steel band’s inaccessible vibe?

Bill;

Yes, they are bass steel drums. They have a vey deep rich tone, and I wish we would play the “Imperial March” from “Star Wars” sometime. They are made from a full 55gal oil/lubrication drum, and it takes six of them for a full octave with sharps and flats. Those drums only can hold three notes each - that’s why so many. The sound is not effected that much by temperature change, but the “pan yard” has a tuner come about twice a year. (Imagine tuning your instrument with a ball peen hammer!)

I have had to wear bicycling gloves to play because my hands sweat enough that I’m afraid a mallet will slip out of them and bean somebody! Think that answers all your questions.

Well, for the next month plus there will be no modeling for me. Next week’s task is to fill this 17.5 yard dumpster with all the sign shop scrap and lumber I’ve been hoarding for 20 years! I’m definitely not OCD…

Man that is one shiny dumpster!
Hope you don’t later regret getting rid of all that good stuff

Yep- Brand new!

What I regret is not being able to give away all the acrylic and PVC that is still in my garage. Timing doesn’t look like it will work out to bring it to Springfield in May. Yesterday I put about 75# of aluminum shapes in the recycle bin :frowning:

I’m not tossing it all, but need to keep it reasonable.

I get it Jon. My great uncle had a plastic forming business for many years and when they decided to sell the property, they had to start by cleaning out the airplane hanger on the property which had all the plastic supplies. I wanted to take home it all and it painted me to watch dumpster after dumpster get filled with plastic scraps but I had no place to store them. Such is life. One day my kids will inherit my plastic stash and wonder why Dad had so much.

Oh, aluminum… wow…
Don’t throw so much away that you’ll need therapy later…

As mentioned in another thread, close dates are on a slippery slope, so I might be able to make Springfield after all. If things get firmed up before the dumpster is gone, I’ll put aside some items to bring up.

the difficult moments in a squirrel’s life…

I’ve recently gotten into collecting ancient coins, mainly Greek and Roman and Judean / Middle East. It appeals to the primordial nerd within. And is completely unrelated to anything else.

My involvement with the Sutro Tunnel folks continues, and is ramping up in view of getting the site opened for public visitation and hopefully state backing.
