What I've been working on, an HLW Double Mack!

What I’ve been working on…albiet very slowely, along with the Nww Blight pooper Mik sent me. Probabaly the last model using Aristos drive bricks under the current fiscal restraints…

This is me using up some of those left over peices from all them other Mack bashes. It started as simply a double cab glued together with two radiators minus the hoods, it was going to go over a battery powered chassis, but after I got it together and painted I added the extra hood units and really liked the way it turned out so I built up the chassis, which is a thick sheet styrene w/ 1/4" basswood stiffeners, and 3/16 basswood stock built up end beams. Drive bricks will be Aristo centercab bricks, likely taken from another less used model, as I’m trying to refocus on my most primary needs, I will likely be boxing and storing my larger items like the Superliner cars until I can focus on building the outdoor line, so I will take the bricks from the F40ph and use them on this model as this model is much more appropraite to the scale of my indoor line. I will replace the F40 bricks somewhere down the line when I can.

Vic,
you are completely and utterly certifiable. Do not worry as I will be in the padded cell next door. Very original creation, a centre-cab Mack!!!

Vic,

That’s got a great profile. I think there will be many following the progress of this. Thanks for sharing.

I was wondering when the mad scientist was going to creat another loco. LOL Looking good maybe it will give me some ideas for my mack. I cant wait until you get your outdoor layout started so we can see this creations in action. Great work

more realistic than I would have thought…nice job!

So the extra space in the cab is for a shower and kitchenette?

Am I the only one who shakes his head in wonder at the number of these things HLW has sold when Mack only built ONE in that configuration? And we complain when other manufacturers model some obscure prototype?

Maybe obscurity comes with size and popularity? The little obscure stuff just draws attention to messing with it.

Women and children love the Mack.
What women say about my Big Haulers: “That’s nice”
What women say about the Mack: " Ohhhhhhhhh that’s sooooooooooo CUTE"
What women will say about Vic’s Mack: “Ohhhhhhhhh that’s sooooooo BIG”
Ralph

…or “Its so nice you have to look twice”

Mik, yes it was a one-off prototype, but its appeal is in its “cute” attractiveness plus it does look like many other small critters, the Sparky catenary version with the sloped hood being a good example. All one really has to do to create a different looking version of this engine is to replace the Mack cowl hoods with a more regular looking squared off hood typical for many critters. Also Mack did build several smaller 8-12 ton switchers that was small enough it would fit nicely on an HLW mini-flatcar

Vic,
I like what you do. Whimsical and fun.
Ralph

Vic, Looks like you just found a way to fund your Forney purchase and begin the outdoor line!

Well maybe he wants them for his outside line? I am very seriously interested though Victor. If your considering unloading e-mail me. Thanks David (I just bought some trains and the wife is gonna chew off my one ear if this pans out. However she loves seeing them run in the spring) Just means more money on plantings for her this spring. :)

Hi David, I didnt do anything other than remove the drive bricks. My F-40 was just a leftover shell I made a chassis for it using basswood and a pair of Aristo Centercab drivve bricks, as such its works for me but its not 100 % prototype. I plan to box the shell and the Superliners till I can build the outdoor layout. I’ll post a new video of the F40 soon, I took it just before I swapped the drive bricks to this boxcab.

Theres a thread on the F40 build here in the model forum

Victor,
Oh yes I’m fully aware of this thread. If you notice on page 2 I commented that I was slobering and still am. Either way if you decide to sell keep me in mind. I dug up your thread last night and sat here(with a few beverage’s) detailing your Superliners in my mind !

Salivate some more Dave

Don’tcha just love big cars on tight turns :o I think that’s why Vic put 'em back in the box. His little stuff looks great on that RR.

Yeah I love’m to death, but they’r just too dam big for the inside layout, I actually have 4 superliners now, and the single F40 engine pulls’em just fine even on the grades but they tend to get derailed on the tight cuves, they get pulled right off :open_mouth: so its off to beddy-bye with them for now until I can lay some 8’ diameters out back in the side yard.

Added the bricks, and couplers, runs nice as usual:
