So far today random sign in’s have had no delays
This weekend I’m going to import what I can over to the new software (a full test, not the tiny subset that I’ve been doing). It’ll be interesting to see what if it works with hundreds of thousands of posts.
There still isnt a good chat solution that I’ve found. Seems like chat on a website isnt a a “thing” anymore. Ill figure something out.
recently everything on my IMac began running slow. Then I got back on LSC and found you were even slower! A number of times the slowness of everything was causing me to send messages more than once. Yesterday my wife reloaded my programs and changed my passwords. This afternoon the system on LSC seems to have recovered it speed. I will keep tinkering!
Bob:
I don’t chat so, for me, its loss is no big deal.
While it’s not as robust as a real chat facility, you might investigate what they use over at G Scale Central with the Coffee Lounge forum technique.

Only a question ?
Is it possible that between HTTP and HTTPS is hanging things up and the server is overloaded? I have noted in threads that sometimes I cannot see pics/videos that others post but remembered that some still use HTTP and if you remove the “S” from the URL then refresh the pics or video shows?
Could it be something like overload and doubling up on itself?
Only throwing that out there and I personally know nothing about websites however by trade I’m a problem solver and sometimes it’s simplicity even if the “computer” tells you other wise.
I’m in tonight, but load time is definitely slower than earlier

Let me know if you need a hand.
It is running faster today.
Have you thought about doing Zoom instead of Chat?
Have a forum I visit that does that and what a difference. You can make individual rooms if you want to discuss special topics.

Sorta like above thread Dennis ? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
I’ve visited the Chat site many times, usually everytime I logon, but never has there been anyone there. Maybe a live Zoom would work better, but you need to set it up for certain times, may of us could do morning, or evening, but you need the time set so we can plan on it.

I know we have several members here that wont won’t participate in audio/video meetings.
Zoom meetingS would be lots of fun since many of us have never gotten to see each other. We use zoom at least once a week that are put together by my Master Gardener instructor.
@Trainman - The chat room is nothing more than a space with an open door. There is no ‘schedule’ per se when there will be folks in the chat room. Over time, the 7:00 to 8:00pm Eastern time has become a default. Some members have even posted an opportunity tor morning chat time and later chat time for folks on the west coast. The effort was fruitless, therefore the member stopped.
I myself have stopped in at odd hours over the years I have been a member and sometimes there is someone in the chat, and others not. The chat is for users to ‘organize’ meetings, try starting a thread with an open door and a time frame. Spend a week or two sitting in chat for half an hour and see who shows up. If no one knows you are there, it is a total ‘crap shoot’ whether anyone will show up.
As for video chat, there are a couple options available. Zoom has been mentioned, however this medium is by invitation and MUST be SCHEDULED ahead of hand. There is also a limit on time for the free application, 45 minutes I believe. Not impossible, but not practical for impromptu gatherings like chat. Google Meet is another. This medium is more flexible in that the ‘host’ of the video chat can post in the chat room a link to the video chat. Those who wish to join the video chat can, those who do not can continue to chat in the chat room. The video link is only good as long as the initial video chat is open. Once all the folks have exited the video chat have left the chat, the link will die.
My tuppence on chat.

True, and there are many here that will never get away from DC, but I read on here every day that someone is looking into DCC, or battery system control and considering a change. I can remember back in the day when I said, I’m never going to buy a computer, then people at work started talking about what there was on the internet, I had one in a weeks time.

I have a group what uses Zoom and seems to be online 24 x 7. You do not need to be invited. just click on the link they have and it is done.
Has anyone had experience doing this?
Does it cost to make this happen?

I’m not talking about the various luddites that dont like change (we have a lot of this type!), but more the people for reasons in their personal life will NOT use audio or video chat. There are at least a half-dozen members that I know that wont use it.
I used to be one of those “Stuck in the past” people, and I still hesitate to grab every gadget that some advertisement tells me I need…BUT, I did suddenly realize that for less than $30 Canadian, I could have a camera, and sound thingy, simply clipped on to my boat anchor/10 year old computer, and simply plugged in.
It has helped me to better communicate with my friends, and interest groups, without any problems, except the ones I create for myself !
I finally got to see and properly meet and enjoy many of my wonderful contacts on LSC. And, it didn’t hurt a bit…and no-one has threatened my security…but then I’m not paranoid, like some loveable old fools I know !!!..but then I don’t do porn, or any of that stupidity.

I suspect that people will use what is available; and if it’s not available, then no one will use it. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
Bruce, it would be most enjoyable to have you share your wisdom and talents, with a few us on the chat, if you can bear to put up with a bit of humour, and occasional intelligence…your friendship is most appreciated by those that know you…please come and share it…it is AVAILABLE…!!
