The color combinations are really good; I’ll steal this color scheme soon. Yeah, though, kill off the shine if you can. Maybe go get some cheap kid’s pastel at the Hobby Lobby, crush it, and brush it on. The dust from the pastel will do the trick.

I did the above with an airbrush and the cookhouse with a paintbrush. Not sure how it got so out of hand. I will apply a dullcoat to tone down the shine and see how that looks. Won’t be able to do it before the deadline but that is OK. Thanks for all your help.

You would be correct, John. Washes on wood is one thing, metal is is a whole different story … for me at least. I was having a hard time with the wash beading up and just running off the metal, which I guess is what was supposed to be happening hence the term “wash”. I guess I’m gonna have to build something else with a metal roof so I can practice some more (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif).

nope! you just have to degrease your metal.
Or wet your water … in the olden daze we were told to use Ivory detergent, just a drop or 2 in say a half gallon of water. The soap breaks the surface tension allowing it to lay flat… no beading.
Hmmm… I like the look of the new grey roof and the rusty one too. I think if you stick with the rust you might have to scuff up your other paint here and there to further suggest age.
All in all that is a great looking building.
Todd, the more I look at the photos, the more I agree with you that the gray looks much better. Can’t do anything to it between now and tomorrow morning, but I am going to spray the “rusty” roof with dullcoat at some point and see how that comes out. If that doesn’t look right, I may start over with the gray or even some galvanizing paint from a rattle can. But for now I’m calling it done. Will take final photos later this week.
Try misting the gray on, not a solid coat, but suggestions of color, Mr. Heavy Hand(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif), Let’s go for a faded look!

I had planned to spray the roof, but due to the weather in our area over the weekend, I couldn’t get outside and momma gets upset when I do it in the house so it was heavy hand and a paintbrush (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif), not a good combination.
