USMC version 2 (factory building)

I started version 1 in 2011 and this summer put it out in the rain. Version 1 was5 feet long and made from painted wood. Well…lots of swelling and moving took place so it’s hiding in the shop somewhere.

Version 2 is Made from Azek and is also bigger. I built the first section today during the storm and so far it’s looking good. I’ve worked with this stuff before so no worries on the weather. Lenght is 8 feet height is 18 inches. With all the crappy weather this week I should be able to finish the four wall and get it outisde for painting this weekend

Shame the first building didn’t hold up, Larry… It was a beautiful building… Second building looks wonderful… Can’t wait to see it finished…

Details Details…I need details.

Sorry to hear it Larry. II do know the feeling though, I’m replacing the roof on my station that didn’t hold up as planned

Awesome! Can’t wait to see more.

While Fred and I are having “Da Big One”, I must say the factory sure is a big one. It’s really nice to see some “uncompressed” industries  Ralph

Nice, thanks for posting.

is the decking cheaper then sentra? looks good

Richard, Sintra does not come in the shapes (as far as I know) that Azek does. This is all built out of 1"x2"…which is really 3/4" x 1 1/2"…as you probably know. The roof will be 6mm Sintra. 4’ x 8" sheet of 6mm Sintra runs about $100. This Azek I’m using is about $1 per foot of the 1" x 2" stuff I used 88 feet of the 1 x 2 to make the one side of the building. I think the walls will run about $200 total. $50 for the roof and then another $20 or so for the bracing to support the roof Add ppaint, windows, plexi etc and it’ll run $400 Here’s a picture of the setup for the next wall. The aluminum is a 10 foot screed bar very true along the edge. Keeps the foundation flat as I build from there.

The other thing is compared to Sintra these wall are thick…read very stong and stiff. Plus no cutting lots of flat panels to make beams

i could not see wall thickness that is what i thought was thin.

Sorry…mis understood the question Dick

More work… yesterday…it was the second wall. Today the bench work. Assembly from here on will take place outside…no room in the shop. Found a nice 10 foot section of 6" dia schd 40 pvc pipe …got 4 30" in silos out of it $12.50 per silo. I’ll use at least 2 on this blg maybe 3… who knows… The bldg will move closer to the house so I’ll have 4 feet of deck for a loading dock for trucks. I’m thinking it will either be a bakery or candy company… lot’s of flour, sugar…and if you live in MA…“jimmies”

whow!
that would fill half of my layout!

Nice work Larry.

Larry. Looks good… Will be a nice addition to the layout…

Not sure if your gonna use any adhesive for the assemble but I have found that plain old 35yr caulk works great with a few brads or screws. Used it for my viaduct and and another building that has stayed outside for 3 yrs (I think) with no issues …Building looks great and I love the window grid (I remember the first build)
…:)…

Larry
i thought you had a high privacy fence between you and neighbors?

Thanks guys…stay tuned

Richard…I did. Replaced it with the low chain link this year. The new one has grape vines on it. Low maint. and grapes as well

Well the shell is done. The next thing is pvc filler for the nail holes, then paint, then windows and floors and lighting. Then the sildos and unloading shed. Then the loading docks and parking lot pavement…and so on. Progress will be a lot slower I imagine from this point.

The tanker is 1:32 the dump truck is 1:25… I’ll use 1:32 trucks for this end that’s the loading dock end. The 1:25 construction stuff is all further away from the track when it’s outside and set up
