Fred, Just let us know what I left out! I just want to get it right.
Yeah when I got it to work I had Cement-Extras with as many as 9 cars running - with a few minor corrections.
But all I get since yesterday is “Unable to build train”, Bob asked for the db.
Next time I get it to run again I’ll process one day and then copy the db and save it under a different name. That will fix “that problem”!
A new version is up, and should address a lot of the train building. HJ: I can build trains with your DB!
EDIT: The Train Detail dialog may be funky, but check the switchlist, see if that is correct.
EDIT*2: Found a bug in the Train Detail dialog, and tracking one in the switchlists. But this is definitely moving more cars.
Better, but still stuffed up. Car locations now show most cars at the industry, not at the siding above on the tree. My Eastbound turn took one box car out to an industry. Terminated it and ran the Westbound turn, The realistic mode switch list moved in IN then OUT of the same industry, then to the termination point, a passenger station on the main. When I terminate the train it puts the car back at the industry. The westbound train does go through a yard that takes empties.
Different turn takes one empty from the yard, picks up another at an industry along the way and drops both at Northville, but no consignee listed on the switch list. When I terminate, the cars are on the siding, but not at the industry.

Sorry it’s big. Cant read it at 640 pixels. When I terminate the train it says both cars are back at Northville, not Tyrone. Advance the day and I’m back to nothing to do; no cars found. I advanced the date 5 or 6 times and it still refuses to build a train. BTTDB

Bob,
Glad to hear that! Just to eliminate one more “potential” I rebooted, then tried again. NO GO, only “Unable to build train” in all instances.
Then let it install 43 and the DB is back but does some funny things i.e. shuffle cars in Landquart with few to go anywhere.
Report with picture coming up a little later.
Bob/Bruce,
Still have problem of when “Run Trains” comes back to say no cars found. I just don’t know.
Fred -
Bob is looking at that same issue for me. Something about the build-a-train not finding the cars that should be in the yards and interchanges. We should see something soon. Bob said it has been crazy at work lately.
Thanks for the update Jon, I appreciate all the time & effort both Bob & Bruce have put into this program.
Well, it’s mostly Bob; or maybe all Bob. I just advance an idea every now and then, but Bob has done all of the design and coding.
But, we’ll get you there, Fred. The problem is that I’ve been testing using my own railroad…and it’s just not encompassing enough. Getting you guys in to test will only improve the program.
Having a larger test group is a great way to find bugs and obscure issues. The larger group also puts a lot of pressure on the programmer to keep fixing every new problem found. The ‘gotcha’ of programming is that a lot of times a fix will break something else, adding even more pressure to the programmer.
Bob is doing a great job of keeping the new versions coming. Let’s not loose sight of the fact that TrainOps and this website are sidelines for him. Maintaining this website alone probably comes close to taking up much of his spare time.
When the next version comes, I’ll be right in there testing it again. But I’m not in a hurry.
Thanks Bob
Hi all,
Here’s a suggestion: How about we each post a diagram of our layout complete with towns that are actually on and off line and the industries that are being served?
Would be either to understand what glitches show up and how they relate to a similar situation on the own layout. As I said, it’s a suggestion.
Not a bad idea HJ. I actually did that a month or so when this fun first started over in the operations forum. I could post the diagrams and my final decision on towns in a new thread. Or you can go first? Just use big fonts for your town names so we have some hope of pronouncing them
I’ll spell them phonetically!
…or number them…
Wellllllllll, what I’ll do is keep it just nice and simple. I guess you guys won’t have a problem with initials that are no more than 3 letters, eh!?
Whatever works, HJ. Here’s how mine works. for the time being since it’s just a simple loop, I have just 2 trains running, An East Bound Extra and a West Bound Extra. (EBX2 & WBX1). Here’s a track diagram…
(http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh58/rgseng/RGS4.gif)
Trains originate in Delores, west bound is clockwise, east-bound vice versa. In Delores there are basically just 2 industries, a freight house for local LCL freight and the coal tipple. The FH can get Flatcars, Boxcars and Reefers. The Tipple gets Drop Bottom Hoppers and Gons. So far, that’s what it gets. Both industries can handle 2 cars. The next town, Mancos has a short 2 car siding for LCL freight. It can handle Boxcars, flatcars, and gons. It may get up to 3-4 cars, some not the type that I have marked to go there. Mills Jct has 2 industries, Mills Manufacturing(track 2) and Mills Mining (track 1). Track one can handle 3 cars, boxcars, gons and DBH’s. Its length can handle 3 cars(40"). Track 2 is the same length and handles BC’s, TC’s Gons, and Flats. Burns Jct is the Interchange. The connection to the outside world and also to my storage area. It can handle every type of car. The problem I still have is that a train will deliver any type car to any siding. I’ll have stock cars being delivered to Mancos. Or to Mills Mining. Example: (from my last run) Switchlist - Train EBX1 (East Bound Xtra 1) - 4/17/1924 Rio Grande Southern Locomotive: 20 - RGS 4-6-0 Caboose: 587 - D&RGW Proceed to Mills Jct., arrive with 7 cars Industry: Milling Co. Industry: Mills Mining Non-industry Pick up: Boxcar 8729 RGS Non-industry Pick up: Boxcar 3527 D&RGW Non-industry Pick up: drop bottom hopper 003 RGS Drop Off : Flat Car 2 CCLCo Drop Off : Stock Car 7341 RGS Drop Off : Stock Car 2015 SV RY Drop Off : Stock Car 1 D&RGW Drop Off : Refrigerator Car 513 RGS Drop Off : Refrigerator Car 71 D&RGW Drop Off : Refrigerator Car 3 SV RY Drop Off : Boxcar 8729 RGS Drop Off : Boxcar 3527 D&RGW Drop Off : drop bottom hopper 003 RGS Now I can usually get around this by un-checking the cars that shouldn’t be going there, but that sometimes leaves me with an empty train. BTW, what is a Non-Industry Pick-up? It’s acting as if Mills Jct is an Interchange, which it isn’t. As you can see, way too many cars and not the types I should be getting there. Another ongoing problem I’m still having is when I build a train and the program goes to open up Adobe , it hangs up and I have to do an “End Task” thing. If I open Adobe before I open TrainOps, no problems. I also have 3 cabooses but the program only recognizes 1 (Switchlist - Train WBX2 (West Bound Xtra 2) - 4/17/1924 Rio Grande Southern Locomotive: 42 - RGS 2-8-0 Caboose: ________________________________) No caboose on this train and none show up on the drop down list. Here’s a “realistic switchlist”: Train # : EBX1, Thursday, April 17 1924 at: Burns Jct Call Time : 04:50 AM Origin : Burns Jct Clearance#: 94-177 Destination: Mills Jct. Fred Ottusch said:Well, I just tried to Run Train again and still the same response "no cars found" yet when I look in car locations it showed all my cars on an interchange track. I've listed a yard track at both interchange locations yet still a no go. Thanks again (and again) for your efforts.
Thanks for the update Jon, I appreciate all the time & effort both Bob & Bruce have put into this program.
I think Bob is still looking at a similar situation with my database. You might want to send him an email.
