OK! Where is the order form!!

Great work Eric

Greg

Now to mount the Train-Li smoke unit. I was able to mount it with two 3D-printed pieces without modifying either the engine or the smoke unit.

This piece fits into the recess on the top of the boiler:

It has little tabs on the side to align it to the smoke unit:

The whole thing is then held in place by another bracket on the bottom that mounts to the stock fixture using the same screws as the old TAS unit:

And here it is all put together:

And voila!

Future work might include re-plumbing the cylinder smoke, but one thing at a time…

I was gonna ask if you were gonna if you were gonna run a tube to get cylinder smoke.

I have everything up and running. The only remaining issue is that my headlight is going on and off when the smoke unit is active. Any Zimo gurus that know what’s going on? Too much current draw through the function outputs? It affects other lights as well.

The smoke works great, though! Finally.

Eric

Are you willing to donate the two pieces you fabricated for the Hudson … so I can test them for you ???(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Happy to share. I can send you a pair, or send the files or whatever. I printed them with Pro PLA, a high-heat version of PLA.

PM sent

I’d appreciate the files also Eric, I need to put a better speaker in it, and the “keyed” mount for a smoke unit will help, although I will probably mount and MTH unit in it.

I have a friend close by with a printer.

Greg

Here are links to the STL files.

Smoke machine upper and lower mounts:

These two pieces get glued together to create the speaker enclosure:

Yep, prefer without holes, most likely I would use much smaller switches or none at all…

Thanks, Greg

I updated the post above with the no-hole version and the bottom plate (which I’d forgotten the first time).

Thanks Eric, got them!

There’s 3 DCC hudsons here in San Diego close to each other.

Funny thing, new friend with a Zimo DCC system like me has a dog named Hudson, after the loco.

I have a cat, and his name is Hudson (and he likes to sit next to the locomotive in the house)

Crazy…

Greg

I can’t wait to install this and see the diff.

I think I might have to customize the top piece as I have a Aristo unit.

What do you think Eric ?

What does the piece look like were it goes over the round hole ?

I see were it goes into the boiler…

No problem …

there are two pieces, one is the “gasket” between the boiler and the smoke unit (round hole), the other is a piece to hold the unit in place, like a U shape.

You have the “top view” of both smoke units, so what round hole are you talking about, the output of the smoke unit, or the intake where the fan is?

Eric’s piece that sits on top of the unit :

what does it look like on the bottom. what size hole etc…

Here are some renderings. The holes for the input and output are not concentric, because that would push the smoke unit too far forward, and it would hit the bracket thingy.

The width of the smoke unit is 30 mm, and the height of the circular extrusion on the top is 4 mm. The overall height of the adapter, excluding the tabs on the sides, is 6 mm.

The lower hole is 14.4 mm and the upper hole is 11 mm (the ID of the stack).

So the outside diameter or the smoke unit’s stack is 14mm …if I just remove the funnel it should work the holes should line up…I could try to use some RTV gasket material … Hmmm

Is the box 30 mm wide?

I"ll have to measure it …I’ll try tomorrow … Now
