USA's cracked gear fix

Some time ago, some one was using K&S brass tubing to fix the USA’s gear problem. I have used the fishing string fix but would like to try the brass ring idea. FYI USA sells two wheels and gear assemblies 2 for $20. To much $ for me.
Thanks for your help.
Sean

You know that search feature works real good.

Found the info hear.
Thanks Bob for this site!!

Now the trick : to find it in the store near me!

The K&S stock number for the brass is 9828 and for aluminum 9809.

The McMaster-Carr stock number is 88605K29 and their price for a 300mm length (approximately 12 inches) is $3.38.

Great Hobbies in Canada will bring it in if they do not have it in stock.

Sean, Harry’s Hobbies just 2 miles from you has K&S in stock.

Not that Item.

I’ll have them order it for me.

Try ACE hardware on the web. I just ordered some brass sheet. No one had it in stock. Doing a search Ace hardware came up and had K&S. The price was cheaper then most places. Try Micromark. They are here in NJ so shipping to you will be fast.

I used the brass tubing, I think it a stronger fix then the string fix.

K&S #9828 is metric size 10mm od with a .45mm wall that is one reason it’s

hard to find in the states. What i have done for over 8 years is use 3/8 od brass

tube from K&S it’s a little more work first i put the gear in my drill press and sand it down.

Cut tube to size and debure it. I put a little ca around end of gear and use drillpress

to push into tubing. The 9828 has a 9.10mm id and the 3/8 has a 8.86mm id.

While Dick413 old post info on gear fixes, It started with Aristocraft products but the fix is sound.

USAT’s axle if so desired is a simple fix and could buy replacement axles for 6.99 What…

Nicky guys long time

Last time USA would only sell the whole axles and they cost a bit more than that if I remember. It would be nice if they would sell just the gears. Hopefully upgraded gears that is.

Not as satisfying as rebuilding unit!!
Uhhh the smell of greese and the feeling of fixing it your self! Ha!

Yeap, I just casted my first replacement for the GP38. I wanted to see how it would work. Trouble is, I made a cast of a cracked gear. So, it’s not perfect. Better than what was in there. Surprisingly good replica.
It would be cool to cast a delrin gear. I have to try the KS sleeve thing. I’ve got several USA engines with gear problems.

The truth is on usa web R22-135 Metal Wheels with Gears (2) $19.95

Joe

not hard to do if you can get the metric size all the better, if not that’s still ok just a little more work cut a bunch of short pieces and go from there if you can use a drill press helps keep things square.

and yes Sean you are right
Richard

As Dick413 forgets to mention if he was there, USAT’s booth. 6.99

Yeah, that’s more like what it costs? x 3 (6 axle units) of course. Something like $50-75 if I remember. Times how many engines I need to do.

Don’t get mad get Heart healthy, Last thing we need is more older people getting

upset and there health suffers. I just read a post on another forum that the promoter of the up coming york show was side lined due to health problems. I sincerely hope he feels better a is able

to carry on this years event.

Less emotion and more Hobby is my motto. Thanks USA for making a product that works and is
