Large Scale Central

UK newWhile

Have decided to take the plunge after a posting in my usual abode, G Scale Central, that prompted me to take a longer look.

Been building up my garden railway/railroad for the past 11 years. I’ve gone from 1:29 US outline and some Euro 1:22.5 at the outset but now have settled on Fn3 Colorado/Logging narrow gauge and likewise 16 mm UK/Colonial. I run both DC track power, battery and live steam across those two areas, on 45 mm track gauge. While not a true “rivet counter” I do like my train consists to be reasonably prototypical. Thank heavens for Emery Goulash and Otto Perry.

While most of the roster is “off the shelf” product I’m not averse to a bit of kit building and mild bashing. My previous hobby was model racing cars, static and moving. It even provided an income for a while - see here - http://www.ukslotcars.co.uk/MAXi-MODELS/MAXi_frm.htm

I hope i can bring as much to the party as I might take away. Max.

P.S. And yes, I do have a sence of humour.

Welcome aboard Max

Welcome, Max. Nice pix!

and we do like pictures…

It might not be the time to note that fact that you live about only an hour away from me, but hey, welcome aboard anyhow.

I agree with Ken!

Welcome to LSC.

Good start with introductory pics.

I am partial to the FN3 Colorado modeling and you look like you have captured the feel quite nicely. I had to look at the first pic to realize it was not a full size Ophir ore loading structure! Green is my favorite color, too.

SCreen burped and gave me 2 dup posts. This one is not needed.

Max I think that you may be in trouble. Conflict with keeping trains prototypical and Colorado NG. Principally there were pretty much no rules on how the strings were put together. Lack of switching yards, turning wyes, siding run arounds, and just plane lazy attitude. I saw a picture in a museum in Colorado that showed a mid engine helper, running tender first! It also makes it eazy, put it together and run it.

Anyhow… Welcome aboard!

Great bunch of guys, and 6 Ol’ Sore Heads, but you’ll figure them out in enough time.

Welcome aboard… Nice looking layout…

Welcome aboard Max, from a fellow G Scale central member.

Max, welcome to LSC. I’m looking forward to more pictures and, perhaps. a track plan.

Welcome Max.

Me Mum was a Brit. I still have lots of cousins over across the pond.

I knew there was something shady about that Bouck

Welcome Max. Always good to see others from the other side.Nice photos and I look forward to more posts.

Thank you for the kind welcomes. Yes, the more I look into the Colorado NG scene the more I understand just about anything goes.Eases my mind when I mix things up. They also just happen to be the biggest things you can put on 45 mm track at 1:20.3. Love it.

I have attached a very rough track plan. It fits in a 24 ft x 12 ft area with a dog leg for the station and goods yard leading to … an indoor steam up area in the living room.

As you all like pictures so much I’ve added a few more random ones. Hope I have not overdone it. Max

P.S. Must meet up some time Tac.

Oohhhh, more nice pics.

And a layout diagram, too!

Please explain steam up area in the living room. (you’d be reading my death notice here if I even contemplated that)

The cat in question

Well, you asked for it. The indoor area takes advantage of a disparity in the height of the garden in relation to the living room, about 33 inches. Perfect height as a steam up area. The live line runs into the house through a double cat door (just behind the signal gantry) and onto a “trestle” structure that runs behind the sofa. That is all dressed up with sundry scenic materials and buildings. A small section of track lifts out to allow full closure of the cat door and some insulation material is inserted during the winter months between the inner and out doors. And now the obligatory pictures. Max

P.S. As I am only answerable to the cat and as she gets an extra door to the house as part of the deal, then she is OK with it. Everybody gets what they want.

I met a guy out in Vegas one time that had a full fledged machine shop in his living room, so I guess a steam up track isn’t too bad. …

Stem up track behind the couch. I hope you have a fire extinguisher handy.

Looking good, Max. Welcome!
