Well, however I got them (maybe from Bruce?), the spikes are in!
You know you’re missing a few spikes… I know you well enough that it will bug you not to have all the ties spiked so you might as well do it now.
Musn’t… take… the… bait…
SO…
I decided to start from the top and re-read this thread as was suggested by the long gone experts. HOWEVER after re-reading, it occurred to me that " YOU LIED TO US" with your very first post!
Now I’m pissed and gonna start looking further into the historic pictures you posted with this farce of a thread you started!
BTW…Yeah, I think I did give you those spikes
Ohh! Ohh! I know, I know
Sean,
I’m not concerned with guard rails on the track as the prototype had none. However the trestle did if that’s what you call it. I did take his historic pictures and circled a few things of interest. He’s not even close to done yet!
What’s hanging off car 85? ^^^^^^^^ Behind the guy standing on the WALKWAY
Is that a crew of brakemen for the hoppers ???
Don’t forget the fishplates ^^^^^ OH and the wooden railing sitting on wooden piers that is supposedly a trestle along with the Amtrak spare parts on the dump platform.
but you already have. worm, hook, sinker and swimmer.
although we all are no rivet-counters - spikes are a whole different story.
If you claim to have ran out of spikes, I’ll mail you just the amount you need plus a few extra for flinging into the abyss.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to notice the missing handrails and walkway…
They were eliminated from the design early on, because this area of the layout is a natural leaf-catcher. I didn’t want the trestles to always be clogged with them, or for the handrails ending up with the leaves, all blown downhill by the blower.
Cliff,
I’m not buying into your reasoning for excluding the HUMAN guardrails and walkways if the trestle (since that’s what you call it) is able to be removed and stored inside.
Cliff, as you are detailing with spikes have you considered printing or purchasing some tie plates for the trestles?
Bill,
Would they be prototypical? Cliff is kinda anal about that stuff ya’ know !
Bill, in short, thanks but no. Didn’t enter my mind. If I were still in the bling phase, and you brought this up, yeah, I might have gone there… But now I’m in the chisel and shovel phase.
For example, I noticed that I didn’t put enough slope between the bent foundations for proper drainage. So, 20 minutes with a hammer and chisel, voila, drainage.
Some mortar will be applied to the concrete’s wounds.
Lots of shovel work coming this weekend to get all this tidied up.
I have no room to store them inside! I only meant that when repairs are needed I can bring them to the work table.
I bet you feel better now too…
----------------------------------------- Deleted because I muffed up on who I was replying to.
Yeah… I guess I do. And it does look better. Good call, Craig.
And it was quicker to spike the other ties than to win the argument.
