Large Scale Central

TrainOps 2017

My third east coast trip of the year is coming soon. I made reservations at the HI Express in Hudson (Marlborough area) for the 10th through the 14th. It looks to be reasonably close to Littleton on the map. Mary has a lot of family in the area since she is originally from Boston. She will be out visiting while I play trains. I plan on taking the northern route and making it there in three days. I will be staying in Effingham, IL on the 8th and DuBois, PA on the 9th. Hopefully I will be able to see the trains when I get there. I had cataract surgery on the right eye last Thursday and will be getting the left eye done next Thursday. Between that and the macular degeneration in both eyes, it’s a wonder I can see anything at all. May have to move up to 1:1 scale soon!

Looking forward to seeing everyone,

Bob

Bob, hope the eyes are good and surgery goes well… Have a safe trip…

Jane and I leave Illinois on the 7th about noonish… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Have to get my seafood fix when I arrive…

Finally put in for my vacation time. August schedule is tight because my brother (73 yo) decided to make his 15y year engagement legal the following weekend and they want Marilyn and I to be the witnesses.

Tentatively staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in Devins -OR- The Holiday Inn at Boxboro. I used to go to the later every October for a ham radio convention. Been probably 20 years or more since I was last there. It used to be like York with an indoor pool/patio and rooms opening to the pool area. Probably much different now. Hilton is cheaper with Marilyn’s Senior Discount.

Still keeping fingers crossed we can do Fri-Sun nights and travel home Monday. Still working on budget. Spent way too much in Colorado (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

What happened to staying at the camp grounds in a cabin ?

Richard

Would love to. You need to reserve very early and there is a hefty cancellation fee. Way too late now and I wan’t sure if we could swing it having just spent 11 days vacationing in MA and CO the first week of July.

Finding a place to stay has been an adventure. We prefer to bring our dog, but that limits hotel choices. Just in case we reserved kennel space and I have two rooms booked (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)It looks like we will cancel our expensive room at the Hilton Garden Inn in Devens and our kennel reservation and stay at Motel 6 in Leominster, This allows us to stay Sunday night and bring the dog all for less money. I usually stay at Motel 6 in York where the rooms are sparse, but clean. It’s just a bed after all (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

I stayed at that one about 2 years ago. Easy to get to, not that far off the exit ramp, easy to get back on 2. Burger King, Wend’y’s and Denny.'s close by.

I’m at the next exit up, the Days Inn, right next to Friendly’s.

Me too

Richard

Me too. I’ve had a hankerin’ for full belly fried clams for a while. I don’t have to drive far to get them, just need to plan on not eating anything else all day. If my memory is working, I think I had either fried clams or fried shrimp at Kimball Farm in Lttleton and it was pretty good - but you guys are right - nothing beats the Boston North Shore and Gloucester.

My sister goes to a place out in Essex(can’t remember the name)… Small place, but great seafood… But, then again, there are a few nice places out there…

Stop talking about New England seafood (fish food as we call it out here); my doctor just told me to lose 35 lbs. (Same guy who made me quit smoking a pipe.)

I know what you’re talkin’ about though…when I was in school out there I ate cherrystone clams by the dozens on the North Shore and down at the Union Oyster House. When I could afford it of course.

John, I think they must take classes on how to be kill joys. They so enjoy telling us to give up what we enjoy.

You guys go to the wrong Doctor… Mine told me not to eat veggies…

Anything that’s green and grows outside should be mowed… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
