I choked when i saw it…
Thanks for posting those. It look to be a big improvement on the lionel model.
The drive gear is on the blind driver? So the siderods are doing all the work to make it actually run. I’d be hesitant to load it up with more weight. How is that motor mounted?

yes. one would assume? me too, gonna do batteries and rc, the 2 cars that come with it and that will be all. appears to float over center driver attached to the heat-sink on the front of motor to the rear of the eye/gear mech. does that make sense?

The Bachmann called it "T Scale" on his fora earlier....could be "BAT Scale" Big A$$ Thomas...Jon, the pictures aren't deceiving it Really is that big....really chunky for kids hands!I’d almost bet it is 2x the size of the Lionel Thomas (from what I remember one of those looking like)
cale
Sadly. the designator ‘T’ scale has already been taken - for the world’s SMALLEST scale electrically-powered mass-produced model railway items, made by KK Eishindo of Japan. They actually scale 1/450th and run on 3mm gauge track - there is even a working electrically-operated switch!
Those who run IIm will be delighted to know that they are almost exactly modelled to the scale of IIm for use with IIm models - at last, your LGB train people can have LGB ‘scaled’ models in their model backyards!

C. Nelson said:That 'feel' you notice is done very craftily by slightly rounding all the right angles and 'softening' the other hard edges...making the whole thing feel 'toylike'. It's a surprisingly effective way of making a model into a toy - exaggerated on certain toys like the H0 scale Thomas stuff...
It "feels" like the Thomas toys the kids have...ok, I know it's a toy, and it feels "familiar"...maybe that was done on purpose, makes sense to me...touch one and you'll know what I mean.... cale
Check out if you don’t bleeve me!

I just want Thomas, and MAYBE the cars, but not the whole stupid set with dumpster quality track and transformer… and not for $200 either.
Much as I’d like one, I’ll wait, thanks…
Oh G*d. I’ve just been over on the Bachmann site reading the dedicated ‘Thomas’ thread and now my eyes are bleeding in torrents…what a [deleted] of [deleted][deleted][deleted].
Cale, you are the bravest man I know - how can you bear to read that [deleted]?
One young person there, who admitted that math was not his ‘thing’ asked about modifying the ‘G scale’ Locolines ‘Ivor’ kit to run on H0 track…
tac, recovering his sanity, partly.

the :Thomas: thread is a dangerous place for those over the age of 14 for sure…

Mik your like me, we’ll just have to wait until they offer them seperate which they are supposed to do, Wholesale Trains has them listed at $105 each, and the cars are $35 each, not too bad.
Mine will get a total face-ectomy
Cale nice job with the must have info!
Thanks and am waiting to hear how christmas turned out! :

no sweat Sean, happy to do it…I knew some would be interested.

Does your wife know you’ve already taken Thomas apart ?
With the drive arrangement Thomas has, I would look for the smallest, lightest batteries I could find.
Ralph
well I kinda mentioned it, off handed when referencing what I plan to do…
if I do wait, it would allow me to find/build an exacting battery pack…we’ll see!
If anybody is near North West Pa Kraynak’s Garden Center in Hermitage, Pa had about 5 of the new Thomas sets today (Dec 6) marked at $199.99… PLUS a sign that said all trains were 10% off… Beats $250 plus $35 shipping on feebay. (take a tour of their “Christmas Tree Lane”, while you’re there.
No, I didn’t buy any. No, I don’t have $25 for gas to go back to get you one, either. I DID get some horses, and some Just Plain Folks figures on sale (horses were in the Amish toy sets at 3 for $7.99 with the implements - also usable with a few mods, the JPF on sale for $3.99ea)
Our club picked up one of theses sets to run during our month long open house. I have not seen it yet hope to review it this weekend. Later RJD
Just completed the purchase of two ‘broken up’ Thomas sets and two ‘broken up’ Percy sets from Al Kramer. His usual professional service. I also picked up some extra coaches and trucks for spares. Al has a set of each listed at present. Prices are slightly less than discount stores, but the big plus is that he has stock available.
Greetings Everyone.
I just registered to join this site so am looking forward to your comments regarding large scale railroading. I’ve been a member for a few years on MLS.
I just received my Thomas set and am excited for my little 3-year old on Christmas day. I also received UPS notification that Percy (not in a set) will be arriving later this week.
I am looking forward to your experience in the RC/Battery conversion once you get going. I have an RCS/battery setup running a Bachmann Consolidation and love not having track power. I don’t know if I’d be able to do the conversion before Christmas so may have to just enjoy running Thomas and Percy around the Christmas tree or in living room.
Question…will I need to purchase seperate RCS units to run each engine or can I run multiple trains with the one I have currently?
Thanks,
Richard
Richard
I’d guess, same remote but different receivers for the different trains you run…
You can run all you want off the same frequency TX.
If you have a TX-24 (8-button), you can run three at the same time.
Call me.
Interested in wheel diameter; tire to tire and the dimension axle to axle.
