THE SKY IS FALLING, again

Time for french toast, again, as the latest weather pattern works across the Midwest. Our interesting local stations weather people have come up with another scenario to boost their ratings. As they warn everyone to stay home, they have now ventured west to try to drive back east in the storm. Literally, in the St. Louis broadcasting area, they have sent one of the weather people to Salina, Kansas, to drive back in on the front of the storm. So unless you are working for a local broadcast, stay off the roads. THERE ARE CRAZY PEOPLE OUT TtHERE!

No weather here, yet. Perfectly dry. But we do have the wonderful, “red sky in morning sailer take warning”. Kind of have a taste for french toast.

Hey Ric,

Yep, the media is in full “weather armageddon” mode! Funny though, I’m here IN Salina and the snow is about 6" with another 8-12" forecasted for today. MOST of us sane people are kicking back and enjoying a “snow day!” Not too bad right here at ground zero!

Ric,

Our weather guessers here in Indiana are saying we will get all that nasty stuff after the evening rush hour. Ice, snow, freezing rain and sleet are the order of the day. If this happens, the county will effectively shut down.

As for me, I will stay in and out of the way of the “cell phone brigade” who will still try to drive in that mess!!

Stay safe!

Central Nebraska is getting it pretty good. About 6" so far with high winds. 3’ drift on my deck, would have to walk around the house to get to the back yard to play in the snow on the railroad, but looks like it’s too deep out on it also to do any plowing, darn!

It hasn’t swung that far north, Jerry. We have a dusting of snow.

I think we suffer from too much news.

Hey, Ric, Susan used to mix some “apple pie spice” into the egg and milk French Toast mix. Was great.

Well every dog finds a bone once in a while… The weather guessers actually got it right for the Front Range of Colorado yesterday/last night. We got some much needed snow - about 6 inches. Made for an “interesting” drive to work this morning. It’s always concerning watching the “white knuckle” crowd trying to figure out where to drive since the lane markers disappeared!

Hope everyone stays warm and safe.

We had some heavy sleet drop for about 45 minutes… put a little dusting on the deck and driveway… Backed off for now… we’ll see what the rest of the day brings…

I know why the weathermen tell everyone to stay home. Their bosses throw a fit if they don’t come to work no matter how bad the weather is. So if everyone stays home it keeps the loonies off the toad so they have an easier commute!

Did you ever notice that the bad weather forecasts are followed with a commercial from some super market chain…

Bad weather forecast = ad bucks for the station.

If I had my life to live over, I would seek a career as a weatherman.

Where else can you work everyday and be wrong everyday and still

keep your job! Unbelievable!

well, It’s 1320 and we’re into the sleet/freezing rain again… supposed to go until midnight…

I just love how nearly every bit of fairly bad weather gets hyped as “THE STORM OF THE CENTURY!!!” anymore. So was last week’s… it must have been a bloody short century!

Shortly after my little brother moved from Pa to Myrtle Beach, he decided to take his kids out to McDs… they saw 5 or 6 snowflakes on the way to the restaurant, but being damnyankees, thought nothing of it. When they GOT there, they were informed that the place was closed for the day due to the “blizzard”…

OTOH why are there so many yahoos who think their Pick’em up, Escalade or Cherokee can go just as fast on black ice in white out conditions as it can on dry roads on a sunny afternoon? Don’t drive any faster than your guardian angel can fly, folks. I really DON’T appreciate my power being out for 7 hours because you were stupid enough to try to go 80mph in a snowstorm. (Last time the idiot wasn’t satisfied with taking out A pole, he hadda take out 2 of them and cause a short that blew something at the substation)

One nice thing about being on disability, if the roads are bad, we just stay home. (one bad thing about being on disability is we have no money left for gas, so we stay home anyway… but sometimes it works out ok).

You sir have accurately described source of all of societies ills in less than 10 words.

[Slapping myself for making a political comment] Now back to trains…

I have no hope of plowing most of the railroad. Our big snow from a few weeks ago has become pack ice over the track. We’re supposed to get this storm Saturday into Sunday. No problem staying home and frying up a batch :]

For decades, I was a country kid who always had a pretty strong “snow truck” around for bad weather. Of course, it was also useful when you wanted to till Miss Martha’s garden for her, or needed the big mower to do the church yard, or somesuch.

Now, as a suburbanite with a Civic, I kindof enjoy putting along during a blizzard snickering at all the big SUV’s in the ditch.

Susan called, one wintery day: “The boys and I had an adventure in the Suburban.”

“Ut oh,” thought I.

“You know the curves on the way to Rushville? Well, it was icy and we slid out of control and I found myself on the other side of the ditch in that grassy area wondering, 'What would Tom do.” Caleb said, “Good job, Mom!”

“So I looked at the buttons. I pushed 4Wheel and drove back to the road. As I went to put it back in 2, I noticed the auto button and realized, ‘Tom would have pushed the auto button and not gotten to the wrong side of the ditch.’”

Sometimes, it IS hard figuring out where the road is when the snow has obliterated all landmarks 'cept that fencepost way over there, and a power pole here…"

well, went into snow for a couple of inches… now it’s mostly a little rain…

Just very windy and cold out this way. Had some snow the other day but nothing big.

We got grass…

Any day above freezing is ok with me!

Being an Automotive Transport and Recovery Specialist myself, its those drivers that keep me employed…I just winched a lady out of her driveway if you can believe that!

Tried to make a go on the railroad today…lots of ice globulars on the rails hidden under the powder…for track power its less than ideal…nice fine 1:22.5 powder blowing around which would have been great to plow. oh well. Temps creeeping into the 40s soon enough though. ONE MONTH TILL SPRING!!!

Then again, I’m outside of Rochester, NY. Winter leaves when IT wants too…

Happy Motoring

Most times our springs our worst then winter. We tend to get what they call backdoor fronts in the spring. South and central Jersey will be 70 degrees while north jersey wil be in the 30’s with drizzle. Thats a typical April/May around here. That has to be worst. Wehave two season here winter and summer.
