Large Scale Central

The siding at Hesperus

Since the siding was put in I needed an industry to fill the space. I decided on the Ice House structure from Garden Texture. It’s an imposing building and since the siding was so long, this should fit there nicely.

My plan involves leaving off the 2nd story ice loading dock and just having a loading dock at track level. Since it won’t be a icing facility when I’m done but a Hardware/General Merchandise store. The loading dock should be able to handle about 3-4 cars.

Basic structure so far:

This is the siding it will occupy:

Looks like you’re going to be killing more grass!
That kit should keep you busy.

That’s my plan…

Actually I ordered the plans. The wood I’m ripping down to size myself. I’m using Spanish Cedar, which is what I use for ties for the turnouts.

Makes for good humidors too!

Cool project!
Two questions
…Where do you get Spanish cedar?
…Are they water bed drawers under your workbench?

My old water bed drawers fit perfectly under my workbench.

Nice start Ken. Look forward to the build

The Spanish cedar I bought at a local hardwood lumber dealer, Hearne Hardwoods. My youngest boy used to work there and brought some home for the porch railings. Some of the scrap pieces I was using to make ties and seemed to hold up well outside.

All the drawers and cabinets in the workshop I built. Never got around to making doors for the cabinets…

Ken,

Are you holding it all together with glue or are you using brads, also? That looks like quite a sizeable building. Glad to see you are doing something for the environment by not running that evil lawnmower as long and there is also the saving of the fossil fuels.

Glue and my trusty pin-nailer…

What is the glue you are using these days?

Coming along nice Ken. This ought to work well for that spot. What’s the size on this?

Watch out with a roof that size as it might need some decoration.

The building itself is 11"x 14". The loading dock is 36" long. The foot print will be about 2’x3’.

It's your own fault! ;)

The roof will get a cupola. A bit of progress:
