Large Scale Central

The siding at Hesperus

Nice. The blue stain looks good. I like the font you chose for the sign too.

Love the look of the blue stain, It’s like is weathered already!
I like the fishscales as well but if your gonna light that structure you need to paint the backside. I think the end gables need little windows to break up them fishscales a bit.
It looks great and your making my wheels turn …I made that plow and currently working on another rolling stock piece but my heart is really into structures.
Great work as always but to get down to my level you need to work with more MEK!

This is a “subscribe to this topic” kind of thread!

That’s sure coming along nicely. I also like the blue stain. Very nice color.

Looking good Ken.

Jon.

From what I understand, he’s no longer in the business. He retired… Dave, I have a big square window with a diamond pattern in the middle of it that I was debating installing on the blank side of the building. I think you’ve just talked me into it. For some reason there’s a certain “comfort” level working with wood. Or maybe I just prefer the smell of sawdust over MEK…

Yep. I see his name on buildings all across the country  Ken, You best ignore that Rooster fella. He’ll keep you busy with change orders  Ralph

I tried to warn him before.

I’m likeing it more and more Ken. Colors are nice. Don’t let “Rooster” goad you into things you don’t want.

Wow! That’s a neat window.

Where did you find it?

It’s a Grandt Line window, part #53919 (3919). When I ordered the windows from Bob Kelly at Garden-Texture, he threw that one in as I sent to much for the shipping. Kinda glad now he sent that one…

Nice touch !

Here we go. Now everyone won’t have to flip back to see what we’re talking about. Nice windows make a world of difference. Ralph

Wow, that sure looks nice!

I really like that stain, too. I’m going to have to try some of those samples. It’s a lot better deal than one ounce of Floquil!

Love that siding-the saw marks, the stain–that’s really a great effect. The window makes it really pop, but the siding is what I noticed right away

Got to agree that fits in nice

The first 2 colors I asked about were Olympic Stains, but the guy said he couldn’t do them in a sample because they didn’t have any half pints in “Neutral”. He could do a pint or a quart, but nothing that small. The Cabot stain was a real close match to the Olympic color and they had half pints in neutral.

I wanted it “rustic looking”, and I almost sanded them out figuring it would look too rustic. I’m glad I left it that way now…

For the weathered look I applied the stain with an old wash clothe and rubbed it off as soon as I applied it. (I now have light blue fingers…) Then sanded it down in some spots to have it look more weathered.

Got the loading dock doors on and working on the trim now.

That window is just screamin’ multi colored stained glass on the outer quadrants and clear(wavy) in the diamond.
What about the gable ends in the attic? Ya’ know a rough opening with a Z framed shutter(like your tower door) and a gallow, crane, pulley system so you can lower a rooster by his feet safely to the ground (or Dave M). A three or four color paint scheme on those fishscales would really make them pop as well!!
Lookin’ good Ken!!!

Somebody needs to cage that Rooster before the feed store morphs into a Victorian Bed & Breakfast
