The reason why I won't buy anything at GeneratioNext

Well, it’s because I can’t…

Contrary to Aristo, which sold worldwide, GeneratioNext limits itself to the US & Canada.

I noticed that when I tried to order some new aluminum track to my grandsons layout. I then found that Europe et all are out. I wonder why?

To me it doesn’t seem like a wise move, even because from chat around the forums, it looks like the hobby is expanding more this side of the ocean, mainly in the UK and central Europe.

But I imagine there must be a good reason for this option. Any thoughts?

Why not ask Scott himself? There’s a contact form here.

Save everyone a lot of wild inaccurate speculation.

Hi Bob:

Well, I’ve tried that, the day the site went up (we were all waiting for it, weren’t we?). I sent a message asking about international delivery and received immediately an automatic response: “Thank you for your Inquiry. Someone will contact you soon”. Nothing until today.

I thought it would be a temporary thing, as Scott must be very busy launching its firm. But then I noticed in the Terms&Conditions “All International Orders - Polk’s GeneratioNeXt only ships internationally to Canada”.

Well to me that reads as deliberate and not temporary. So I guess I’m being told to look to other places.

I wonder if I’m I wrong?

Jose,

Have you tried buying your track from a US-based dealer instead? If the system is rigged properly, you should get a better deal from them anyways. I think RLD carries GENEXt.

Yeah I would be surprised if a dealer (these days) are charging a higher price point, than a ‘manufacturer’ !

I wouldn’t be surprised if, given time, dealers in other countries don’t start carrying the Polk’s GeneratioNext line of products. Scott is just starting out, and things should blossom given enough time, effort and cash.

Jose,

Consider that international shipping is quite a nuisance. The cost to the small business that cannot negotiate reasonable rates can be exorbitant. Not to mention customs, etc. I am sure Scott looked at all the figures from Aristo and based his decision on some economic logic I am certain he will not share with us.

I don’t know whether they will, but check with Switchcrafaters, they sell aluminum rail, and last time I looked it was better priced than Aristo. But note I said rail, I don’t see on the site where they sell assembled track, nor do I see international shipping. Contact them and ask. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Nope not this time as I’m not allowed in international waters.

Hi all:

I’ve met Scott last year at Aristo HQ, when I convinced my wife to make a detour on our NY visit to pick directly a Revo receiver six-pack. Aristo had recently started direct sales, bypassing distributors. Scott was very friendly, and even offered me an ECLST reefer.

I tell you this so as to explain that: a) I wish Scott the best success and b) I was under the impression that, as it was the case with the last days of Aristo, Scott would rely mainly on direct sales (hence the emphasis on site design).

Of course, I understand that international shipping is expensive, but I always expect to pay that expense in full. I’ve bought most of my kit from Trainworld, Switchcrafters and Aristo and I’ve always been billed full shipping and insurance expenses (Usually USPS, slower but much cheaper). And above that, of course, import duties here on the receiving end.

That’s why I am a bit disappointed on seeing that GeneratioNext does not ship international. Oh well, I’ll wait and see if someone (RLD?) will sell some Aristo compatible, Euro-style preformed aluminum track to extend the kids’ portable layout.

Thanks for all your comments

Jose, give Scott time. He is a one man show and has a full time job to boot.

Lots was said as Aristo crumbled, but who plans for a melt down?

I don’t think Scott has the deep pockets to hire a foreign mail clerk.

As others have mentioned a hobby shop would be a better avenue, after all they sell customer service. Scott is doing all he can to be the importer…

Give Robbie at RLD Hobbies a chance… or your favorite dealer.

My thoughts…

John

Annoying, yes, but give him a little time.

Jose, as you live in a European country why not try Bachmann UK. Their web site lists 4ft. and 10ft. radius aluminium curves. Cannot guarantee accuracy of the web site but it is worth a try.

Let’s close this thread, and start a new one with less negative undertones…

Maybe if a new thread is needed; try the subject of just plain “LS Model Railroad manufacturers, and suppliers, NEW and Old”

Well Fred the initial post is elsewhere besides here. However the help that has been offered is positive in the main.

The title does look a bit like yet another troll posting.

If the word 'won’t" had been changed to 'can’t" the title would have had a totally different connotation.

“can’t” would have possibly been better choice, and yes ALL of us have bloopered regards improper word usage.

“… Maybe if a new thread is needed; try the subject of just plain “LS Model Railroad manufacturers, and suppliers, NEW and Old” …”

sorry … but like that would not become very negative very fast ?? lol

ooops time to go warming up to a balmy +10c maybe the snowplow special can get out in hopes of clearing the remaining snow in the BlackToothGap r/w .

I would go the route of buying from a U.S.dealer and having it shipped internationally.

When I had trouble with my Aristo FA1 was when there were problems at Aristo.

I called tech support and was told no one was working in tech support.

About two hours later I had an email from Scott. Even though he was on vacation he helped out. A nice person indeed!
