The reason why I won't buy anything at GeneratioNext

Ooops…

It’s a well known but often overlooked fact that the written word is quite different from the spoken one; the very same words can get very different meanings according to context. I tried to be mildly humorous/sarcastic and failed miserably; I looked for an adequate emoticon to temper the text but found none (you can find a remnant of one on the original post).

But the main failure is clearly the title of the post - a part of the failed joke with its aggressive head in permanent view.

While I thank all the suggestions that were given by several posters, I ask our Benevolent Dictator to spare my shame and hide this post in the dark storehouses of this site.

Thanks to all

No big deal at all Jose. Even most Americans have their challenges with the written English language!

Doug, and sum a dem Americans have “challenges” just talking Engalsih.

I can get you what you want from them and ship it to you.

Jose,

One great failing of the written word is it has no inflection. Without inflection subtle shifts in meaning get lost in the direct translation. Trust me when I tell you there have been several rather heated discussions on this and other fora over the written word. Personally I try to stay away from any ‘interpretive’ meanings, they always seem to get me in trouble.

PS - Take Robby up on his offer, he will treat you right.

I strongly object to Aristo-Crafts closure. The mere thought of it, makes me sick. When you think about all the products out there that people have bearing that name and the fact that people should be able to continue to buy/purchase these products for their long envisioned model railroads. Yet, Aristo-Craft is out there. Many stores carry allot of Aristo and distributors are not necessarily short on supplies, but engines?
Modern rolling stock? Here we find difficulties. At least I have. It confounds me to spend upwards of $400 or $600 hundred dollars for a modern eco friendly Dash 9, only to be thwarted in my attempts to purchase not one, but three or more for an accurate lash up. I really don’t trust EBay, but sometimes I see no choice.

I am not as familiar with GN stuff, but Aristo…Yea, their products could have used a little American boost.

Stacy, hopefully GN will be bringing back the Aristo line. Scott Polk told us that is what he wants to do. We shall see if he is eventually able to or not. Right now Scott is building a company from scratch, and when I talked to him at the East Coast show, he seamed tired to me. So we need to give him time to get his company off the ground, and see who does eventually bring back the Aristo line.

Personally I would like to see the Aristo line come back, but I probably wont be purchasing much of it. My storage areas are nearly at capacity right now. I have plans to expand my storage ares just a bit more, but not a lot more.

I hope he does as well, but I agree, this line needs some enthusiasm and not more of the same old tiresome stuff. I love the Dash 9’s, but I wish that Polk would consider letting the Germans build something for them versus the Chinese. I must confess a certain distaste for Chinese mass produced stuff. It always seems problematic and fraught with issues none of us have time for. I know I don’t. I purchased a Piko Taurus. Opened the box, placed the engine on the track and lashed it with some LGB rolling stock and poof, she looks great, runs great and is great. I bought a brand new Dash 9 several years ago now from Aristo-Craft. I pulled her out of the box and right away, a minor scratch on the side of the body and in an obvious (how can this pass a QA test) location. Okay, the engine ran for a few loops and developed a rather ugly creaking sound. Very confounding. As if that were not enough, the smoke unit failed almost right away. I mean this Chinese produced stuff is really God awful, but the German stuff…I haven’t anything but nice things to say. Now if Piko decides to go off and make a Dash 9 and mass produce it, I won’t say anything. I’ll just get my $2000 dollars out and buy as many as I can.
LOL

Mike of MTH said tha it would add about 20% to the retail price to bring model train manufacturing back to the USA.

I’m willing to pay that price to avoid the Chinese junk.

Me too Steve. Me too.

I am waiting for America to wake up! Realize that it can create beautiful wonderful things again and the thing is: We can also create jobs as well. MTH is not far from me where I reside. I made sure they knew how I felt about this Chinese stuff.
