Here is a fun video I made of my RDC running round my RR. We normally run Steam trains for the railfan tourists on Sundays but it is a bit early for that regular service but that didn’t stop the mob from showing up and demanding a ride on something. The boss appeased them with the RDC and a stop at Dunkins.
Another nice video Todd, great job!
Thanks Cliff and Happy RRing !
Love the Trump Troll character. How did he get his hair into that car?
I bought an RDC3 to repaint, never even taken her out of the box…. Yours makes me want to reconsider unloading it.
Love it and the music, one day I will learn to make video’s like these! Thanks Todd!!
He put on a MAGA hat. He was the one that got the Diet coke at the Dunkin Donuts.
Try it out John. They are a unique piece. They are also really good at finding track that is not level or twisted and they derail.
The funny part was the RDC didn’t derail once during making the video but when I was done I sent the RDC running in the opposite direction and it derailed 4 times. My track needs a bit of work here and there.
Thanks Pete. I use an old GoPro hero3 and Mini Tool Moviemaker for the editing.
This movie had a secret. My plan was to have my camera car coupled to the front of the RDC and send it round and do run bys at scenic points BUT the coupler on the RDC is really high and didn’t line up. I then grabbed the S4 and used that to push the camera car for the roundy round footage and then ran the RDC to grab the run by footage. It took more editing to get it all together but I think it came out pretty good.
Very nice, Todd! I just bought two of these off a NHGRS club member. I hope to have it operational for January’s show. But, we will see. I am a bit concerned about the curve radius needed. What is the minimum radius you run yours on?
In the video you will see the RDC negotiating 8 and 10’ diameter curves. Pinchpoint tunnel the long horseshoe, is built round 6.5 diameter curves. It makes it but must look crazy with the overhang.
To give you an idea at the 1:42 mark in the video, that is 8’ curves. At 3:55 the RDC is going over 10’ .
These things do require level track and they will tell you where it isn’t.
Thanks for the specifics @capecodtodd . I guess when I someday build my own garden railroad, I may have to include 10’ curves. It sure looks better on them!
When I first built my RR I used 5 and 8’ curves. When I rebuilt it the 5’s went to 8’ and the 8’s to 10’ diameter. Bigger is certainly better if you have the room for it.
