Sounds like my TE Jon. I spend more time getting it to connect than running trains! My latest theory is that we are on approach for Edwards AFB and that military planes carry some sort of jamming device and it knocks out TEs.
Yes Doug   it must be that ..... or ..... it could be that a TE is just not the cat's meow. ;)

For Christmas I got to spend the day with my sister and nephew, most of my children and ALL my grandchildren. It rained most of the day, so we stayed indoors and ate and drank.

Oh, about those trains…nothing directly related, but I did get a crikut cartridge for Schoolbook Plantan, which looks like railroad roman in the condensed mode, and a six pack of dvds about Rte 66, so there should be some ATSF shots as well.

Ran trains around the Christmas tree. Broke my Bachmann Christmas trolley. One minute it was running, next only the lights!

Now I’m going to OSH to get some train calendars.

Hopefully OSH will still have some in a couple days. I enjoyed mine this year!

The ones on our club layout work great. I wish I could talk nice to mine!

Yup, sometimes it's the hairball.

The closest thing to train-related I got was a Lemax (or similar) Christmas ornament of some cats, a butter churn, and a milk canister. Pretty close to 1:20, so it’s going next to a barn I’m refinishing. Other than that, some bits and baubles for the workshop. I got the kids each a train set. Forget who makes it, but each was $60 at Toys-R-Us. The locos are iffy in terms of quality, BUT the rolling stock is virtually identical to the B’mann “Lil Big Haulers” stuff, and you get 4 cars (including some animated ones) for that $60. The locos are R/C (forward, stop, reverse–no speed control), and despite both transmitters being on the same frequency, so low-powered such that if you’re more than 10’ away from your train, you can’t control it–perfect for both kids running on the railroad at the same time. They won’t be able to control each other’s train. If the locos die, I’ll either (a) rebuild them with drivers/gearbox from my scrap box, or (b) gut the controls and put them in a Bachmann Lil Big Hauler loco. But hey–for $60, hard to go wrong! The kids are monumentally happy. They’d be happier if the railroad wasn’t buried under 4" of snow and could play with them outside (Andy told me I needed to build a snow plow…), but (a) white Christmases are cool, and (b) they got snow disks from Santa, and spent the afternoon sliding down the hill at mach 5.

@Dick, I’ll have to keep my eye out for that Cricut cartridge. Been looking for a good RR font for a while. I was on the fence between getting SWMBO the Expression 2 or the Cameo Silhouette, which–according to the literature–allows you do draw and cut your own shapes. I downloaded the software (free), and played with it, but couldn’t get some of my logos to import cleanly. I’m sure with a little more practice I could get it clean, but Allison’s already heavily-invested in the Cricut stuff, so the Expression 2 won out. That, and I have Sure Cuts A Lot and an old, non-updated-firmware Cricut that should still work with it. I just need to install the software and play. (What I need is a project which will require me to do that…) Eventually (hopefully) Cricut will come to realize that allowing people to use and abuse TrueType fonts with their products is a good thing…

I suspect it’s user error!

No train stuff but the kids had a wonderful Christmas on Christmas eve. Got my son a red rider BB gun. “you’ll shoot your eye out kid”.
Actually spent Christmas day working. Yay me.

“Actually spent Christmas day working. Yay me.”

Know that. Every Christmas we take out the photo albums and it seems all the Christmas family pics when my kids were young, I was in my work uniform, either coming or going to work. But, it was part of the job. Seniority lies ahead.

I was thrilled to receive one of Darryl Huffman’s CDs, a copy of the 1918 Keystone Driller catalog. I have photographed the ruins of a Keystone Driller at an abandoned mine in Nevada and would like to model one someday, so this was a very welcome gift.

I also was given a vintage, July/August 1937 “Model Builder” magazine in excellent condition. Not really anything in it that would be of use to a modern day outdoor RR modeler, but I love old time stuff, and it’s interesting to see the old articles and ads.

Used to do that, at triple time :D Nowadays, I always get it off because head office doesn't want to pay the overtime rate. On the whole, I prefer being off.
