Large Scale Central

The KVRR acquires some real estate

Too funny Shawn, that’s what will happen. The drawing is only to show what could be done in the space allowed by SWMBO.
BTW I ordered 160’ of composite trim yesterday for ladder bed, more than enough for the 60’ of track that I have so far. It will come late next week.

Excavation has begun.

An overall view of the area, garden hose is the outside boundary.

Looks like a good start Randy, but I see 10’ of useable real estate outside the line. While you’re grading use the old move the hose over a bit trick to grab some.

Might happen Hollywood while she’s having her afternoon nap.

ahhhh, looks like a nice start… remember, Randy… think Pictures…

Yep Andy lot’s of pictures…kinda stalled till some composite material comes into the building supply later next week. I am going with ladder roadbed but with PT deck at the yard and areas where there is a turn-out or two.

Nice start. Cant wait to see some track down.

Is it done yet?

Well between working at my real job and dealing with 20’ of plugged 2" drain line in the basement I got a little done on the RR this afternoon. The material for the ladder roadbed came into the building store this morning. Could not get 1 X 2 composite trim boards, they say only available in the US. Go figure. So I got some 5/8" X 11 1/4" facia material and ripped it into 7 pieces 1 1/2" wide. Got the upper curve done and ready for back fill.

ahhhhh, progress, and even has Pictures… congrats…

Nice Randy. And pics too

I wonder if someone can give the dimensions of an AMS brass 250 switch. As you can see I am using ladder roadbed and what I need is the length of the switch and how much it diverges so I can run the ladder off for sidings and passing sidings? Also what would be a good center line spacing of parallel tracks? (1:20.3)

Actually Randy I would mount the switch to a board and not do it with ladder.

Pretty sheety weather here today but SWMBO and I went looking for a source of ballast this morning. Found one within 5 minutes of home and the price was right! (Free) So after a little screening of the gravel I had to lay a short section of straight track on the ladder and ballast it, I think it might work. Sorry about the crappy pic, a little dark and rainy right now.

Randy
The AMS are #6’s so mark where you want the frog and the diverging side will be out 1" in 6". So in 12"
it will be 2". Hope that helps
Rodney

Come on Randy you cant let a little rain stop you. Do I have to send the Kittatinny crew up and show your guys how to work in the rain. Dont be like Rooster. LOL

Cant wait to see more.

Thanks Rodney, I thought they were #6’s, but was not sure.

Okay Shawn got some more work done. Had 12 yds of topsoil delivered to the driveway and after many wheel barrel loads into the backyard (and beers) we gots dirt for the RR. Been quite busy at work this last 2 weeks but got some progress today, some more ladder put in and some more back fill.

Looks promising Randy

I hope so Hollywood…It’s all new to me and I hope I am going about it in the right way. Trying to take all of the advice from you guys here and maybe get it somewhat right.
