Large Scale Central

The Candlewood Valley Scenic Railway is For Sale

The time has come for us to pull up the roots we planted in Connecticut 43 years ago. Our next chapter does not have room for an outdoor railway, but has 1:1 trains in the back yard!

My plan was to try and sell the railroad as an add-on to the house. Bidder #1 is not interested and bidder #2 hasn’t said. I priced it out starting with recent eBay sales of used track (less fees) as a basis (Thanks Stan for that advice) . I came up with an estimated market value of $5900.00. I’m offering it with the house for $5500. I’ll sweeten the pot for anyone willing to come here and disassemble it. Take it home with you for $5000.00.

It needs to be gone by May 1.

What’s included:

Outdoor -
338 feet of Aristo Code 332 Stainless Steel Track - mostly 5’ sections.

Take it all for $5K -OR- take only the track for $4200.00

There are also a few LGB/Piko bulidings I can throw in if wanted. My home-brew Aluminum bridges and the indoor wood coal trestle are not included.

If you want to discuss, please PM me for a cell number.

  • #6 switches have had frog power switch and buss bars eliminated.

Sad news to hear Jon but I know life changes and moves on. There is always new good things to look forward to even as we sadly say good by to some of the best old things. Hope your not planning on desertion from LSC

Jon,

Have you thought this through? A 1:1 Railway in your backyard? I am sure all of us have some thoughts you might not have considered…

  • At this new scale, you’re going blow through your $35 MIK budget!
  • How well do Phoenix or Railpro sound systems actually perform in this scale?
  • Weathering could be costly. NIB is not an option.
  • Steam? Diesel? Battery? Live Rail? Narrow or standard?
  • Ops-sessions? You know we all are going to want to participate. How are you going to handle Rooster wanting to bring some Amtrak?

So much for true friendship…
With this sale, and down sizing, I lose my underground siding, and burial tomb…
I’ll bet Jon never even thought of those long ago promises…

Nope. I’m a permanent fixture here! I plan on an indoor switching layout once we get settled in.

I did. The tomb will remain, just trackless - UNLESS buyer #2 wants the RR.

Narrow gauge. Live Steam and Classic Diesels. They even have a new (to them) 6 axle Alco powered beast!

you’ll need to buy a big house!

You are a great modeler, and your outdoor RR will be missed , on to new and better things.

The plan is just the opposite  Looking at one with the same size first floor, but no full basement. Downsizing like crazy!

John,

Good luck on the move. While sad to see your railroad join the fallen flags, I am excited to see the new one go up at your new home!

Eric

Good luck with the house in central PA.

Good luck with the new digs Jon ! I thought I had a solid bid in myself?

Jon, though it’s sad to hear you’re selling off the CVSR, it’s also great to anticipate your big move to southern PA, and all the new stuff you’ll be doing there and getting yourself into trouble with. And I’ll be really looking forward to your exploits with the EBT!

Things are progressing much faster than I had planned. I wasn’t planning to market our house before May 1, but the opportunity in PA popped up and I didn’t want to loose it. Our house sold in 6 days without a realtor!

The buyer does not want the RR. He will need to deal with all the rock work and Fred’s tomb. I’ll give the new owner Fred’s phone number, perhaps they can work something out!

If a buyer doesn’t surface soon I’ll start pulling it up. The Farewell to the Candlewood Valley special is scheduled for Saturday, assuming the track is operable.

If I pull it up I’ll offer to bring it to NELSTS and if that doesn’t do it then it’s off to PA with me and a glimmer of hope for a new elevated RR. Some semblance of an indoor switching layout is definitely on the plan. I may be calling you for shed advice as there is no basement.

Dude, maybe keep everything for PA? You never know what might happen down there, right?

I vote for a new elevated railroad at the new place.

Jon. I sent you a message via LSC

I don’t have much land at the new place and I have no idea what the vandalism probability is, but perhaps.

Is this the same place you showed us a while back that was just a few feet away from the ROW?
