The American Invasion of the IPP&WRR for 2010

Yes folks it is happening once again. As Fred calls it “The Invasion of Friends”. Whatever. The weekend is the 17th and 18th of July, but it actually will be well underway by Thursday the 15th. There is/was question as to whether we could pulled this off once again this year, but God willing, it will all work out. Sorry to say there is still a few questions.

Anyway, any and all that can, should plan to be in the Ottawa Valley in the middle of July. You’ll see real model railroad operations, great friends, great food and an overall great time.

Jean and I are planning on it. That reminds me…I need to recheck my reservations that we made last year

Hope to see you and Jan there - as well as some others!

Ric - Have you started checking out campgrounds yet

We know of some and then Doug has recommended a Provincial Park on the river south of his house that sound beautiful. Rideau River Provincial Park, I think, is the name of the place. Doug sure made it sound nice. Fred’s place is only an hour from the border, south it can’t be to far.

It’s only about 20 minutes from Doug’s place…South, on the old highway to Prescot…
You might want to have Doug reserve place in the Park for you…it’s a good 45 minutes to my place…

The Park is right on the Rideau River/Canal, South of Kars Ontario. Just a tad North of Kempville Ontario. Kars is VERY near Doug’s place…just across the river from him…

I just sent a “Page” to you guys about the park…you just have to Google it…Rideau River Provincial Park…

…they say it’s 20 minutes to Ottawa…maybe to the city limits, but then Doug is within the city limits…more like a half hour or more…

Rideau River looks like a very nice park, but is kind of far - Around 30 miles from Fred’s. Also, I like my AC and they only have 15 Amp electric - so its fans only. Perhaps not as nice, but closer (about 8 miles) and supporting 30 Amp electric is the Ottawa Municipal Campground at exit 138 off the 417.

Gadzookus…that time of year again…

It’s getting closer!

Time to double-check those reservations.

We’re still planning to attend. Anyone else?

I double checked mine and Fred said my room is available this year…I don’t have to sleep in the utility closet…

Just dress Ken in a long white tunic, and kufiyya. Not wanting to be accused of racial profiling, he’ll breeze right through

I could have misunderstood Fred, but I don’t think that’s what he meant…

What I meant is…the upstairs bedroom is available for Ken’s use…

Ken sort of has priority reservations here, due to his seniority !!!

No; it isn’t an age thing; it’s how many years he has been travelling to Ottawa, for a great weekend of friendship, fun, operating the IPP&W, and generally enjoying life.

There seems to be a strong chance that my neighbour, Mike, may be home for the time of the INVASION, and has suggested that he has a good amount of Venison available for a meal…

The IPP&W is again in great shape for operations. All the rebuilding of Nelson Yard has proved successful.
I expect that Doug will soon produce a plan for the days of the event, as he has in the past. I will post it here as soon as I get it.

At this point, the whole event will start on Thursday, July 15th, and goes on until the last bheer is finished....he he.....until Sunday, July18th. (Ken usually keeps a few iced teas so he doesn't run out...!!!)

It might be a good idea to start letting me know of who is planning on attending.
…send me an Email…to let me know. I think you just have to click on my name , and you can send a note…

I believe Jan has made arrangements for our stay at the camp ground on the canal. Our plans and new adventure are coming together. This was very questionable this year, so it is great to see it happening. A “friend” told me, “sometimes you’ve got to make changes and set priorities”.

Ric,
Has Jan decided on a menu?

and what she would like me to provide, besides the usual…corn on the cob and watermelon…

Sheeeeesh, only 5 weeks away…where does the time go???

Ken,
I don’t know if that is on her radar, yet. I’ll approach it at the right time. She just had 2 weeks with my Mom visiting and right now is at the Doctors with her Dad. There has also been a lot of grandkids around.

I hope you can read between the lines.
