Large Scale Central

Taylor Tin Works Challenge build 2016

Are you sure your going to be over the 800 sq ft of tin. I think it will be close (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I just did a bad thing… I calculated just the roof area. 1592 Sq Ft. of tin…

The long side used 23 panels of tin. Thats really not cheating ( cause I had the panels before the 1st of Jan [ self justification ]), it’s just not fair to even think that this monster build would even go into the same category of builds with all the guys that stayed within the set rules. I knew that I had the panels to build big, ( big, huge un-fair advantage). But it was John P.'s fault that forced me into building the Tin Works. If it was to be a true factory it had to bigger then 800 sq. Ft. And my Pike really needs factories to justify its existence.

Thats my story and I’m sticking to it, it’s all John’s fault. And maybe a little Rosters Too.

The Teflon man lives!

Todays progress… I feel like I’m actually getting something done. Will I make it by the Finnish time?

Got 1/2 the roof covered, and one hoist house side done, Thats all.

It’s really taking on that industrial look.

And My favorite pic of the night…

Back at it tomorrow…

That thing might take out Google’s satellite with the reflection it sends back to their camera! That’s a lot of shiny tin. Looks great.

That looks fantastic! Really looks like a new industrial building. Are you planning to keep it new or age it somewhat?.. I guess I can stay tuned and find out(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

It is shiny!! Keep it new, or age it? Hell… I just want to finish it. For now it’s scheduled for mother nature to work it over. Yet for some weird reason I do mentally see it as painted a light pale blue. The light blue seemed to be one of those colors that a lot of metal buildings ended up as. You see a lot of them out west in the rural stretches that color. At lest the sides.

Back at it today, I figure i’m about 1/2 way done on the panels.

BTW: Fitting the panels around windows is a real PITA. What an IDIOT for a designer!!

Windows go in AFTER the siding is up, not normally, but that is one area where you can make an exception. Awesome work, I would like to order some , but it looks like all production went in house… maybe next quarter!

You paint it blue when it dulls and you no longer get a good reflection of the sky. Otherwise you want it to stand out like a beacon on the horizon.

Wonderful build.

John

Well, we can certainly see where all the Tin Work’s first quarter profits went … making tin for the Tin Works. Man that’s a lot of tin. It really looks good though. When it gets up and running, I know at least one RR that will need a few loads.

Good progress today. It’s looking that I just might get the mostly done in time.

Got the rest of the tin on the roof and the other two sides of the hoist house.

All told, I put 97 pieces of tin up today, and only 21 were whole, all the rest had to be cut or trimmed.

Tomorrow I get back on the siding on the building. Maybe the shop doors too.

Very nice work Dave.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

There is no mistaking that design and paneling, that building screams INDUSTRY !

If projected profits allow, the company could have a crew tasked to polish those panels to keep them shiny. What an advertisement for the product! Truly a shining gleaming beacon on the hill !

Just make sure the train crews wear sunglasses, when they are switching that industry on sunny days.

They could get a real quick tan if there is snow on the ground!

Looks good Dave

More progress on the Tin Works. But first… Had to take a break and watch one our New Mexico Incredible Sunsets. BTW No photoshop here!

Looking out my front door… Shot with my iPhone.

On to the Taylor Tin. I got all the rest of the tin hung… Except for the removable section of the roof.

I sheeted over the top of where the bay doors will be for weather protection of the wood. Todays projects are the bay doors that will be non-functional and just attached to the outside. And the corner flashings.

The area over the front doors and windows will have signage attached.

Gotta figure out some type of porch or entry landing. Stone or wood deck, or some other suggestion.

I think that I will run out of time before I get to any details other then signage.

Looks good Dave, Like the portrait of you and the Misses in the last photo. And nice sunset.

Is that structure going to blind the neighbors and any car driving by? Sure looks good!
