Large Scale Central

Taylor Tin Works Challenge build 2016

I’m scrambling to get the “Must Do” stuff done. I really wanted to get more details on it, But it the time thing.

Got the Bay Doors made, and clear coated, and stuck on…

Thats NOT were the billboard sign will go. Just setting up top.

And put a flashlight inside to see how it’s going to look with the yet to be installed lights.

Need to get the trim done, and the re-movable roof section finished.

Dave are you going to put some kind of support under the overhang? Looks a little top heavy. Like the doors.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

you must be deep in love with your crimper. so much corrugated surface!

(not to mention the half hundred of windows…)

that sure will be an eyecatcher!

@Korm Right now I’m pretty tired of tin. But These panels are not the common crimper stuff. I make these using a pair of roller dies that I made and the press to run them in. They are correct for size, shape and number of ridges and valleys for each piece. Correct to scale.

Your building looks imposing from the low angled shot and the lights on.

What’s going on in the “blue room” on the tip top floor?

Nice signage.

Todd, Don’t tell anyone, corporate secrets , but it might be nuclear. Thats why it’s separated from the rest of the works.

You need a triangular piece of corrugated right there.

Cool building and a neat tutorial on casting windows. Gotta love it! How big is this building?

It turned out great. Nice work!

And thanks for running the contest - lots of very good looking models!

Some Pics as it ended up when I ran out of time. Mostly done, needs detailing and Finnish stuff, plus LEDs to light it up, inside and out.

I like it, It does shine in the sun!

Finnish stuff??? Like a Saab or a Volvo?

Just kidding, I regularly do battle with the damn autocorrect. That looks great btw!

Nice looking factory Dave! It really jumped to life when you planted it outside. It looks very creditable and perfect for it’s location. I liked the sounds of the blue color you had in mind, but now that I see it out on your layout, the natural tin really looks good too. Can’t wait to see it after you finish it up.

Sorry Vic those are Swedish!

Have a Smorgasbord instead!

Dave,

Really came to life outside!

Any neighbors complain of the glare?

A hearty thanks for Another Fine Contest.

John

PS; I congratulate you on the horizontal addition! It gives that plane it’s own identity.

JC

Great Project!!! I would like to see more on the roll mill that you built, I have been thinking of building one myself.

That’s a fine building, Dave. I really like those doors. They certainly stand out against the sea of shiny aluminum. The sign really adds that touch of realism. I too want to thank you for all the work you’ve put into making the challenge successful. Mik would be proud.

So, Dave, you never did say, are the doors all upside down or right side up? It’s all relative you know!!

Great build, you really pulled it off well…and I still think it should be vote-able under Rule 1a!

I think the corrugations on the triangular piece you added should be vertical, but horizontal like it is, does give it character.

And I really like the silver painted brake wheel and staff on the flat car. That ties in it to the tin works and says that the car belongs there. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

@John P. I cut out the door that was upside down, and it didn’t want to come out, beat it up pretty good, the GOOP really held it in well, replaced with a new one, it does give me comfort that they are in to stay.

@Dave M. That little “wedge” was just 3/8 to wide for 1 piece. So I would have to cut two for each side, and then one of them would have had to be a very little chip that probably would not have stayed on anyways. I was tired of “tinning” and that fit easily, Horizontally placed tin on side walls is common, My Quonset hut has both ends clad in horizontal pieces. And thats my self justification at this time!!

That’s how it would have gotten done in the real world.

Dave, ok Man, its fine by me. There is a corrugated metal building, I drive by from time to time, that is done with all corrugations horizontal.
