Worked overtime this weekend, and still pushed enough time to get the roof put together. Now it’s starting to look a bit industrial. Used scrap that I had in the bin. And waisted to many hours figuring out the cuts for the ridge lines and valleys. But I’m about to start slapping the tin on. This thing is now to big to reasonably fit on my work bench, And my shop is Un-heated, so it’s an indoor build.
Next up will be the dock and loading platform. I’ll have to cut more cedar timbers, as I gave away most all that I had stocked away for future projects.
Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot, I still have 7 days, piece of cake, no problem, Thou I may not get all the little details attached by then. Oh yeah, I’ve still have 3 shop doors to build… AAArrrrgggg…
Your building does have an industrial look to it and it looks heavy. The stone foundation looks terrific.
Your wife must be very understanding. Mine looks at me a bit odd when a RR projects spills out of the basement and onto the dining room table.LOL
What did you use for the roof pieces?
Dave that’s a great looking building.

Did I miss that you found a job? Good news!
Taylor Tin Works is looking good. Why’d you skimp on the windows though? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)Two or maybe 12 more and it would have been top notch!! Lol
Seriously, That is a great looking building. I’m sure it will get the Tin Works plenty of business.
@ Daktah Sort of, I still have my Photo Studio, but for the 7yrs that I ran an Ashley Distribution Center, We let the photo studio slide along, Very little promotion and stuff, Did more of what we wanted to do and less of what we had to do. It became more of a hobby, that paid the bills, except that we had been pushing the Graphic Stuff. Last weekend I had to make 6, 4ft x 16 Ft Sale banners ( w/grommets) and 9, 2ft x 5ft spider displays. Took the order on Thursday pm, delivered on Mon. 0800hr.
Made progress. Worked on the loading dock. All re-cycled cedar. Lots of cross bracing, just like the real thing.
Love the pin nailer
And how it fits. Just fine.
Also got all the seams sealed with adhesive backed aluminum. I also sealed all open edges of the ply, top and bottom also. All the “was wood” for the roof got all edges sealed, along with the ridges and valleys of the roof. Should hold up even if I get a leak from the tin.
Just about ready to slap some siding on. Tomorrow the rest of the rock work, and start on the 3 shop doors.
Very Nice looking!!!
Gee, the loading dock alone is pretty impressive! Good to hear that your business is picking up, thanks for the clarification.
Dave, the shape of the building came together well, a very interesting conglomeration of pieces in good proportions. I wasn’t sure how this wold work, but it did. Like John said, that deck is impressive to say the least. I’m saving the pictures as a model for constructing a deck.
You think you got enough widows there dude? The Tin Works will save on lighting electricity at least. How are you finishing the exterior walls? Also, I’m waiting to see how you use the flat pieces of tin you sent us.
Please note to all: Again this year, as in the past, This build if for Rule #1 only… And is NOT subject to voting for prizes. I am so way over the allowed budget on this one. Even at my cheap prices this thing uses way to much tin to cover. Even pro rating the window cost doesn’t help save my butt.
The whole thing will be covered in corrugated tin, come on… It’s the new Taylor Tin Works building after all!
Well, as to the flashing stuff … As per the rules, I did, technically speaking, have it in hand before Jan 1st. I will be using a lot of Tin. A LOT of Tin to cover this monster. This thing has grown to about 36" L x 18"W x 21"H. I plan on putting flashing on the ridges, valleys and the corners. Thou I had intended to start with, have it a board and batten walls, and only cover the roof with tin. But it is the new Taylor Tin factory, and it has to have Tin siding. I also had all the tin for the siding too.
Dave that thing is just looking great. An impressive building
Rule 1a: Taylor Tin Works is allowed to invoice and deduct the value of tin sent out to railroad construction companies who haven’t sent you a contribution (like me, geez) which would no doubt bring the adjusted cost under the limit.
Dave: This looks like you cut the roof pieces from your dining room table, and , if you stand back and look at it, it kinda looks like the Trojan horse, with no legs… Seriously, you are to be commended for taking on such a huge challenge. I am wondering if the square footage of the roof is more like 2500 sq ft in lieu of 800 SF… Larry [The New Old Man from NM]
Got some tin hung today, along with finishing the stone on the rest of the foundation. Starting to look like a factory.
And the other side. BTW working this stuff around the windows is a PITA.
Thats all folks!! I just might make it to the Finnish.
An impressive structure Dave and has, without doubt, some quite intricate wood working. It does look good.
Ahhh a bit of Frank Lloyd Wright influence (in his later years)
Nice Job Dave. I’m guessing the original wood plank siding was in bad shape and needed repair? This would be when all the tin went up? Unless of course the machinery was in place and churning out tin in another earlier building? Real nice model and one to be proud of.
No Mr. Wright on this NM project. It seems that he is involved in some secret clandestine project in Idaho.
Wow Dave thats impressive, but I cant help but think that unless you stop sleeping for the next few days, your not going to make the Sunday deadline (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
