Tank Car for the Rotary Snow Plow

I decided battery power for the trucks on the rotary would be better than track power from wet/icy track. Looked at tank cars prices, then decided to make my own from stuff I had laying around, almost a ‘Challenge Project’! I had ordered the tank car ends from Ozark awhile back when I ordered the mill ‘kit’. Last year I bought some of the Delton stuff that guy sells, frame worked out pretty good, needs a bit of this and that. Pipe cap for the top and my metal duct tape I like to use. You can see I filled the seams in the paper tube with spot putty. Will finish that up. One end cap will be able to pull out to get to batteries/RC(Del Taprio and 2.4mghz radio) I had some LGB trucks laying around also, using plastic wheels.

At it again Jerry, and it is looking good. Nice call on the battery power for the ‘go’ power.

I think I would have used some pvc pipe for the tank. Last longer in the weather. Later RJD

Is this tank is to carry Fr. Fred’s “Holy Water,” or Brian’s “Maker’s Mark?”

It will say ROtary Snowplow on the side Steve, like the one in CHeyenne that they tow behind the rotary.

R/C and batteries Steve, like I said in the first post, gotta get those new glasses man! :slight_smile: May shoot some paint inside to help seal it some, if that is what you were referring to.

Yup, I know it will carry batteries, and may need paint on the inside to prevent moisture damage.

What are you going to label the car with? Battery Car in 1 inch high letters? Or something more whimsical, like Old Fotheringschlosh from Bob McCown’s private stash? Or even something like “GRAMPS”

Steve, sorry, it will look like this. I took a pix of the tank car, then someone else sent me this one-sorry can’t remember who. Glad they did, mine is of the other side, it has a box hanging under it’s side.

I got some more done on the rotary tank car. I used some window screen for the expanded metal. I put on the box and big cylinder on the other side. Stanchions are small cotter pins from the hardware store(now closed, alas!). Need to finish the rails and do the ladder, then design up the lettering. May do that myself on a laser printer, have one sheet of laser decal paper left. Local print shop closed but the person that owned it kept the laser printer and said she would print decals for me.

Looks good Jerry, Next time before you punch the rivets sand the material down with say 600 grit it will dull the shine quite a bit. I did this for my Washington St. Station stop windows.

RIc, I don’t get around like you do. I’ll be here in central Nebraska working on the tank car. Planning an A&W drive in, but may do a Vietnam V-100 model first(1/35 scale)

David-thanks, but I had planned all along to paint it silver, so it matched the silver frame/trucks, as per the prototype photo. Will shoot it with primer first and inside the cardboard tube also. Just got some half in square type of fencing wire, cutting pieces off for the ladders, almost scale out right.

We’ve got to get you out more. Your models could open up a whole new venue at the ECLSTS. I think you need to do it for the Hobby. Its the only fair thing to do.
