Suspension or ban?

HJ, I learned not to pay attention to anyone trying to pick a fight, I am interested in facts and reasons why, I like different peoples opionon to learn certian things, please stick around you were always one to try to help people.

Please respect Bobs living room, and other people who are on this site, I came to this site from another site, this site always seemed more newbie friendly and I always got answers to my questions.

This site to me has more train knowledge on it then any other, the modeling is unbelievable, the help you get is awesome, the tips people share really help other modelers and people are always willing to share something.

So lets all get along…

Tom H

I also hope you stay, I really enjoyed the German translations since I am a huge LGB fan. This site is so much more friendly compared to others. I try to stay neutral in my posts as best as I can. Being on the spectrum, I sometimes come across as an arse, but its not intentional, just the way my mind processes stuff. Now lets get back to playing with big trains, its Christmas time!! Mike

HJ,

Be well. I will be in touch.

Regards,

LAO

I agree with Steve F. I have learned to just skip over HJ’s posts.

I agree with Steve F, and like Bill, I skip his post’s. So no problem to me whether he stays or go.

If I was going to leave a forum after being on it for a while, I believe I would post something similar to what HJ did, as quoted below.

Whatever my personal opinion is/was, it is a polite, non-reactionary post, no spite, no mailice, no personal comments.

I personally think the thread has turned too personal. I guess if you say it’s ok to say “don’t go”, then logically you could also say “go, I don’t like you”… if you used simple logic, like the HAL-9000 computer.

BUT, this violates the “living room” policy and the “be nice” policy, and just plain normal courtesy.

What’s wrong with the old adage, "if you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything?"

Dear Guests in Bob’s “living room for train talk”,

It has been an interesting and eventful Fall Session, October and November in particular. October since I decided to fully retire from the EMM business and November because of my retirement from LSC - notwithstanding my “ambiguous” status i.e. is it a “30 day suspension” or a “lifetime ban”?

Either way I used the past thirty days to give matters some serious thought. I received some PMs and some phone calls with advice and suggestions. Those were duly considered, along with the changes that have developed on LSC during the last 45 - 90 days.

Since it is Bob’s “living room” one may suggest improvements and/or changes, but that is all one can do. Then wait for eventual changes and improvements.

Considering all that, and having realized that one less forum to visit/participate in means correspondingly more time for other projects, the “30 day suspension” or “lifetime ban”(?) was/is like a nudge. Time to move on and enjoy other things.

Those who need specific answers to specific “problems” know where to find me and/or talk to me (email, phone, fora, video sites).

Cheers

HJ

Thanks Larry, let me know when your plan firms up. There’s lots of interesting stuff going on, sometimes just for a weekend.

HJ, I sent you an email… I might have an old email address… if you have not received it by now, please email me your current email address…

Greg

Greg, current email by PM.

I don’t always agree with Greg, but in this case I do - 100%. Dispassionate and civil is the way to go, every time.

I do hope that \HJ reconsiders; as others have said he has been an invaluable contributor, both for his modelling and his German translations and “in”.

Thank you Steve!
Yes, I have reconsidered. A wise man advised me “Ignore their baiting”.

Good HJ, I’m glad to see that you have reconsidered and are staying on.

Chuck

After all the hoopla and the apparent bias I’ve had enough!

Bob please delete my account. Pronto!

Sorry to see HJ go.

One has to try and see humor in all things, or drink enough beer to forget them, both methods should be done at the same time.

If you read the thread that caused this, then I think you can completely understand HJ’s decision.

No, I’m not posting the link or entering the discussion.

Greg

oh, my opinion is that it’s a shame, and I mean the word.

I had read that thread.

I’ve been catching up on a lot of the threads.

When I see some folks taking pot shots…in print…and the Most High comes down to our level, ignores those, and yellow cards the guy who is the subject of those pot shots…well, not yet sure what to think.

The “reputation system” that is “here to stay”, and we’d better “get used to it”, does exactly what we are now seeing.

Seen it before…you get GOB syndrome (good old boys) slapping themselves on the back, shunning those that they feel don’t drink the same stuff they do (you think putting in print “oh, I skip over his posts” doesn’t fall into that category?) and here we go.

The whole reputation system reminds me of early elementary school.

That’s okay.

It’s someone else’s house and living room. They can do what they want.

Don’t think I am trying to dictate what should be done…just verbalizing my opinion on it.

I think I’ll just watch for a while. Signing out.

Good luck, Bob.

Re: HJ-

What did happen between December 9th - above posting affirming his stay - and March 19 that would warrant HJ deciding to no longer participate on LSC?

Greg’s empathetic observation, above post, has high credibility with me.

HJ leaving is a loss.

If we’re talking about the Wiki thread, what he posted was a complete fabrication. There were no “fake accounts editing things”.

Bob-

Not knowing the content of the “Wiki thread,” (or its location) what negated an LSC contributor’s interest in staying on?

Thanks,

Wendell

Apparently he did not like being called out on his fabrications. The claimed that unknown perpetrators had somehow edited posts on the Wiki when we had one up here. Wiki software has a great feature, the ability to see EVERY EDIT that has been done to any page. There is no indication that there were nefarious edits going on by mysterious accounts.

That aside, there was no reason for him to start the thread to begin with. The ONLY possible reason would be to stir the pot, and or bitch about people. Unless someone has been in a cave the last couple of months, or not been paying attention, my patience for that kind of garbage is long gone.

I’m sad that he has chosen the path he has. I like his videos, and told him so back in Dec when he decided to come back.
