Surry Parker log loader and vicinity

Looked at it. Pondered. Needed a tweak, so here it is. Made the cabin a touch shorter which made the door opening a bit higher on the tent material. So here’s the “final” pattern (well, until I talk to my sewing helper and she shows me where I screwed up):

Cheers!

Bravo Jim for your work. I see you are attacking a tent. FYI, my seam edges are between 2/8" and 3/8", I don’t have to convert to an inch, be careful not to make an unsightly allowance in the corners during assembly. Good luck

Thanks Jean-Gilles! Your advice is invaluable!

I think to avoid that unsightly look, trim your flaps at 45 degrees on the corners. This avoids overlap and the unsightly bulge! I wish!

Thanks John! I was already thinking of something sort of like that. Will give it a try!

Started building the base and wood part of the tent cabins:

This being retired stuff is kind of fun!

What’s this “retired” word you speak of???

Base looks good, Jim. How many of these you planning to build?

Gonna build 4, Dan. Got a spot all picked out for them near the loader.

As to “retired” … they tell me I don’t need to work anymore. I was worried it had to do with replacing the rubber things on my car.

Wavy Gravy I think our band saws are related!

Fun Project

Put the paper tent mockup on the wooden base:

And temporarily placed it and the loader on the layout to make sure it all looked reasonable. While there, spotted some log buggies at the loader:

Seems plausible…

Now that’s cool like the tent house as well, get busy need more than 1

Wow Jim your loader is looking very nice, it is a real piece of finely done modeling.

You tent is really cool too.

Dennis

Got some of the major pieces assembled: steam engine in place, main cable strung, roof in place.

Starting to look like a loader! Last major piece is the water tank, then on to details (i.e. junk). Gotta figure out some way to light this thing…

No real operations for it at night, but maybe a few bare bulbs in the camp area and high up around the loader for safety at night. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Got the water tank on and added a few details…

And I’ve been fiddling with the tent cabins: enlarged the pattern a bit so it had some play, and shortened the framing because it was just looking too tall. Also added a notch in the tent to allow for a heater chimney.

I think I’m ready to get my seamstress going here…

Jim it looks like you have that keg building down to a science now, great build

Jim, every time I see the loader I see more details that make me go … WOW. This has been a fun and educational build to follow.

Great details Jim!

Jim,

I “dropped track” on this project. All I can say is “Wow!”
